It was brilliant... everyone was so chilled out on the day, and even though I was a little nervous, once they shaved my head and I summoned up the courage to look in the mirror, I didn't care that I was bald cos I knew it was a fab experience.

I know it doesn't seem like it, but it is only hair so seriously consider it....

I think from the ads on tv, about €1.65 goes to the ICS.

I think I saw a mention somewhere that about €1.50 goes to the charity for text donations, which seems a bit low. If you have a look on mycharity.ie, you'll find quite a few people doing it, so maybe you'd be better off donating a fiver or a tenner through that.

It sounds horrible but I will not do it. I had chemo over 5 years ago for oesophageal cancer and promised myself that I would keep my hair long. I will as always give money to the Irish Cancer Society.

Edit: my hairdresser advised me against me dying my hair. I do feel bad about it but I found loosing my hair to be very distressing the first time.

No, it does not sound one bit horrible Cathy I can understand what you mean.
And this will sound corny as hell but it's for people like you that I am doing it.

Nah Cathy that doesn't sound horrible at all. In some ways I cheated when I was having my head shaved. My hair was going to fall out anyway from treatment, so I beat the chemicals to it and made it a little bit less terrible to lose all my hair. My hair still hasn't regrown because of radiation directly on my head, but one day..... and then I'll NEVER EVER EVER get it cut again

Funny story- I remember the day Mum decided to shave off her hair. I got a text:

cant find on the pack when the dead line is to have money lodged in, i did see it online but cant find it now. also are there rules as to how much has to be shaved or how long to be dyed.
ive 12" of undyed blonde hair to go and my friends though supportive think im mad but the way i see it i am raising funds for cancer research and helping repunzels and i have a choice to to shave my hair when others in treatment dont so i want to show my support to these people.

Hi - this is from www.todayfm.com

The only thing we ask is that as much of the sponsorship money as possible is sent to the Irish Cancer Society by the end of April.
I don't think it matters how long you have it dyed for either etc - most important thing is to remember all that money you're raising for such a worthy cause Good Luck with it!

No prob! By the way, you can continue to raise money for up to a month after you get it done. I'm mid-March too and I know there's people I may not see until well after I do it, so it's nice to know they can contribute afterwards also...

As long as you get it to them by the end of April, it's ok

Send me a link. I won't be able to donate much, but I'll do what I can.

Just heard on Today FM that the text costs €2 and a minimum of €1.56 goes to the Irish Cancer Society.
