John Terry should never have been given the captaincy back after he was "stripped" of it last time.
He is a vastly unlike able character, not unlike a lot of professional footballers. At some point one has to ask when is society going to stop letting some of these guys off the hook because they are "exceptionally" talented footballers? There's talk of innocent until proven guilty - but the charge here is great and he has a past history of acting the clown. Who becomes the new captain is irrelevent. England will yet again flatter to deceive. |

The majority of posters here have a huge interest in English football due to the teams they support. Also a lot of the media which they follow is English and so many will read the issue of the English captaincy. Just because we are Irish does not mean they cannot discuss an issue where most have a huge interest in the sport. If you don't like it then don't bother clicking on the thread. Christ. |

Rooney definitely if it wasn't for the 2 game ban. Quote:
Seen him a few weeks ago in the tunnel before one of City's big games and he looked a leader. No baggage (debut Sept 2010), only 24 and has potentially plenty of tournaments ahead of him unlike, for example, Gerrard and Lampard. Arguably, there would be more pressure on some of the older players who have might see this as a last chance of winning a tournament. He'd be able to handle the pressure anyway I reckon, seems to have bottle. |

I'd give it to Gareth Barry I think. You don't want anybody thats going to be around too long and might get upset if they lost it. No doubt for me who the next long term England Captain is and thats Phil Jones so long as he can stay healthy.

Terry should never have regained the captaincy after the last debacle imo. Unsurprisingly though, he had neither the class or the cop on to relinquish it this time. He certainly could have saved himself the humiliation of being stripped again, but I suspect he's not the brightest spark.

It seems to be only in England that the media make a big deal of it. I would imagine the hype around captaincy has taken Capello by surprise too since he took the job. Over here, if Keane is out, it transfers seamlessly to Given, Dunne or Duff without any fuss whatsoever. |
