3 broadband remote access problems

Hi Guys - hoping someone can help me with this!!
I have installed a dvr on several client sites with remote access over the 3 mobile broadband network. On all sites I have a verified upload speed of better than 0.6Mb/s. Dynamic addressing is tracked using Dyndns and works very well. Remote access via browser on port 80 or on proprietry s/w on various ports are also quite good. Access on smartphones via various apps also works well depending on strength of 3g/HSDPA signal over vod or o2 network HOWEVER access to the dvr from a smartphone on the 3 network will not work. And just to dirty the waters when the 3 smartphone is linked to a LAN then access is perfect. It seems to me that the traffic from the dvr is being throttled or limited in some way over the 3 network.i have tried to get some movement on this from 3 tech support but no matter what approach I take the answer is always the same " We do no support or recognise this problem!!"

Please any help would be greatly appreciated

joe2zak, there's a thread further down the page that might be of interest to you.

Maybe ask on thread, or a polite PM to enquire how they went about doing what you are having trouble with yourself.

Hi spongebob - constant push on video is not a practical solution in this case as only infrequent and short term access is required, Thanks anyway

amalgam - referenced thread is useful but the system is accessable from other netwoks but not from the 3 network - thanks

Many carriers block mobile station to mobile station traffic. Sometimes this is deliberate and sometimes is a side effect of the NAT that they perform.

It's unlikely that you'll be able to communicate between two H3 mobile stations without using a proxy or intermediate VPN.

Hi there - trying to achieve access to a dvr where there is only 3g coverage (no adsl connection)

Can I ask what is the setup that you use - to success ?

How is port forwrding handled in such a scenario ?

my normal experience is www-> eircom router -> switch -> dvr + pc + xbox etc - nat and firewall handled on the eircom router

what is the equivalent setup in the 3 g world ? e.g. www -> usb dongle -> xxx -> switch -> devices. -? how is nat and firewalling handled ?

3g access to dvr

Hi Toyota
www -> usb dongle -> 3g router -> possible switch -> devices.
Port forwarding and ddns handled on router. Make sure these features are available on 3g router before purchase. You need a ddns account from whichever provider grabs your fancy. Upload speed is important on 3g network in order too get a reasonable service.

Hi joe2zak,

Can you tell me what equipment you are using to remotely view the DVR.
I have an apollo dvr, an host name from DynDns and edimax 3G 6200n router which is connecting to the internet via a three dongle. I am having trouble making all the units talk to each other. I have had somebody look at this and have said its the dongle that could be wrong. Just interested to know what you are using.

Hi Guys,
Anyone got any success with this?
I am trying to set up DVR through 3 aswell but so far no success?

I am out of contract and would even switch to O2/Vodafone if I could get remote access that way?
