Ah, that would explain why a few months ago, a manager in Roselawn Tesco's had his staff instantly clear out a whole freezer section after I pointed out the out-of-date foods in it. I thought it odd how swiftly he took action and just thought he was doing a bit of PR.

There is a lovely 'Trolley' guy in Roselawn Tesco's, He is so helpful and seems to be in a good mood all of the time. Have to say it does encourage me to shop there.

maybe that's why Superquinn is losing money to beat the band. I was in there the other evening at 8pm and had the store to myself...apart from staff wandering around. I know having someone stand at the checkout fulltime to pack your bags is a nice touch but I always feel this really is something a customer can do themselves (unless you request assistance). The annual cost of hiring staff for that feature alone must be significant.

I'd agree with most other people, Lidl and Aldi in Clonee are very good, although by all accounts tough companies to work for.

The Dunnes in Ongar has got a lot of stick on here over time but its improved in the last few months and the staff are nice and seem fairly tight knit. However access to it, parking, trollies, environs etc are all very poor. I gave up on Dunnes in Blanch, can get packed and parking at peak times isnt worth it

Superquinn is great for all their specialist stuff, they do a poor range of brands though for your everyday needs.

Tesco in Roselawn is like a time warp to Super Crazy Prices - they should expand it, sell it to Super Valu or shut up shop altogether. However as has been mentioned the new Tesco in Cabra is really good. Its not quite as big as Maynooth or Clarehall but the facilities are top notch. One of those around Clonsilla or Mulhuddart etc would be just the job as Cabra is a bit of a haul unless youre passing it......

Slightly off topic but something that Ive brought up before but could never get an answer for , how come Lidl get away without having a best before date on most , if not all of their veg?? Its the main reason I never buy there to be honest.

AFAIK best before dates are only legally required on raw eggs, nothing else.

Yeah I knew that alright, which is grand for local needs, what I mean is they would easily have the potential trade to justify one of their megastores in the area - competition with the German brands would be good

They have a quota of items per hour they have to scan. If they stop scanning they have to key in that they've stopped. One of the girls in Aldi told me what it is one day, can't remember exactly but it's pretty massive and explains why they usually only have a few tills open cos they need the traffic through each operator.

Staff in M&S in Blanch will always thank you for waiting when they go to serve you.

I was in Liffey Valley M&S today and the lady who served me did not do this.

BTW, there is a man in the Blanch M&S who is so friendly and efficient, think his name is Sunday. Whenever I say "Thanks, see you again" he always answers "Please God" - I get a kick out of this for some reason!
