wanna get myself a Chaos dreadnought but not sure what route to take. the actual Chaos dreadnought is not even an option i hate that thing!!! lol

so i have 2 options
1. Forgeworld, really cool model but with multiple weapon options the price gets a bit much. also having never worked with resin i dunno if theres anything i need to do differently from metal or plastic.

or

2. Space Marine Dreadnought converted, my bits box and modeling skills might not be up to the challenge but it would be cool to try out. only decision here is what dreadnought to get? i was thinking the Venerable dreadnought would look cool as Chaos.

so what do yous think? has anyone got any cool Chaos dreadnoughts to inspire me???

Gotta clean that resin good, give it a good scrub with an old toothbrush and a small bit of washing up liquid to get rid of the release agent. You have to be careful of the dust if your sanding or drilling, if you have to sand an item then wear a dust mask although if you sand plastic bits then you should also wear a dust mask

Don't have anything to use as inspiration though

Converting is awesome as it can give you something totally unique and can make people looking at the model guessing where it came from. For a chaos dreadnought I wouldnt choose a GW model at all. (as long as your not playing in a GW store you will be fine) I would go with one of the warmachine warjacks as a base model and chaos it up from there. Personnally I like the Khador Beast-09.

For me some of them look like they could have been once loyal dreadnoughts but over 10,000 years in the warp they have been mutated.

But thats just my 2 cents....

the warjacks do look pretty cool alright but i would like to try stick to GW stuff...

Some of the warjack arms might work quite nicely on a chaos dread, even if you didn't want to use the bodies.

The easiest thing to work with would be the standard plastic dread kit, and bits from the chaos vehicle sprue.

If you do an image search for chaos dreadnought you're likely to see a lot of peoples work, and most of the larger 40k forums have modeling subforums, which will give you more detailed info.

You could also look at swiping bits from other kits .. the defiler, maybe the ork deff dread. They might take a bit more work to add in, but they'll give you even more of a unique look.

Green stuff is also going to be your friend. Metallic flesh, fur, battle damage, all can be modeled on.

You could also add trophies. Think of the terminator trophy wracks, but on a larger scale.

yeah thats pretty cool, similar to this one i've seen. i think i wil try doing a conversion similar to these with a marine body strapped/fused to the hull...
