eflow - pay fine or go to court??

Just got a solicitiors letter from eflows solicitors in Kerry. They are looking for close to 2k for some tolls I missed over the past few years. I could probably borrow the money to pay them but I feel the fine is too severe at €98 per missed trip.

Anyone got any experience of what the likely result of going to Court would be. I'm on a reasonalble wage but certainly dont have 2k or anything like it to just pay as fine for some missed Tolls. Also should I ask for photographic evidence as sone of these are going back to early 2010.

thanks in advance, Puz.

Question after watching clip is: Have you completed the contract?

Ring them, Solicitors or Eflow. And try to sort it out with them. 2k is a pie in the sky figure they might well be happy with you paying half that and signing up for a video account. But speak to them get it sorted. Going to court is a pain in the hole.

ring eflow, be polite and honest. Chances are they will give money off the fine.

We let four toll charges run up to ~100 mark each in fines because we moved house and didn't get the letters. We completely forgot about them and got a phone call about it. They had called before and left voicemails but I never bothered to check them!

Explained the situation and they dropped the bill down to 12 euro for all 4 tolls. I did have to take a bit condescending ****e from the operator but hey it was worth it to be meek for about 5 mins in my life.

Yawn...................

To the other helpful posters.

Has anyone actually gone to court with them?

I spoke to them this morning and there looks like little chance of them reducing the fine to less than half. I know that is something but I would be happy to sign up for a video account if they just charged me the tolls outstanding. I know someone who got less of a fine recently for an actual criminal damage crime.

It's out of E-Flow's hands now, and in the solicitors hands, so no point phoning E-Flow.

I'd say E-Flow probably sell the debt off to the Solicitor for them to collect, so they'll have a basic figure they need to get to make it worth their while doing it. You can either negotiate with Pierce & Fitzgibbon, or take your chance in court.

Thanks ROR for your input.

Still want to hear from someone who has gone to Court to see what the outcome was.

Is there a Courts web site with judgement info?

Even if there is, I wouldn't rely on it - there are just too many variables. If i'd made 20+ trips over a couple of years and never paid, though, i'd be doing whatever was necessary to stay out of court.

What do you mean yawn?Do you not think it a bit ridiculous that you haven't bothered to pay any road tolls for a few years?Because I certainly do!

I would have crossed that bridge a minimum of 300 times over that period of time, and paid my tolls. Now please go annoy someone else as I dont have patience for people like you trolling.

Now hang on a minute, I am no troller just curious as to why you haven't paid tolls for over 2 years.

But in terms of advice, I would echo what the others said, ring e-flow and try and deal with them. Chances are both parties don't want to go to court.

I missed paying a few fees. I called them and they were very nice, cancelled any penalties I had and just paid the required toll. Try that.

I had 15 unpaid tolls over 3 years. I rang up eflow last week, signed up for a tag and they put me through to the crowd in Kerry and I paid €90 (6 euro per journey)....

Thank you bennybreezer. I'll try them again tomorrow and see if I have better luck than this morning.
