I found a 20 punt note in the gutter shortly after the change to the euro. It was a nice free 25 quid or so

Two garda standing watching their patrol car blazing from an engine fire, and not looking too pushed about it really!

Couples in flagrante. This I have seen on three separate occasions, two of which were in the Phoenix Park.

I used to cycle out to Pollardstown Fen before dawn so I could capture the moment when first light made the stomata of reeds open and release methane built up over night. Much of the Curragh was devoid of any light at night at that time, and I had an old-style front light, which didn't illuminate the road or the surrounding countryside all that well. I once got an interesting optical illusion where it looked as if horses were running silently alongside me.

On my commute to work recently I saw a woman with a lunch bag apparently stuck to the side of her helmet and sticking up in the air. The lunch bag was empty. Why was it there? Where was her lunch? I fear I shall never know.

A couple of weeks back I was cycling towards Laragh when a young male deer jumped over the ditch onto the road and into the path of the car ahead of me. It ran to the other side of the road and jumped over the ditch into the rough ground on that side. It came very close to being hit by the car, but once into the rough ground it turned around and glared back. It caught my eye and gave me the hairy eyeball that seemed to scream "What about you then? You want some? DO YOU?". It looked a bit mental. I decided that I didn't want some so I legged it.

Maybe it was the methane...

(This all sounded very trippy)

This morning - a jogger (male) stood having a piss - not terribly weird except it was on the Swords by-pass and he was facing square on to the approaching traffic - I suppose when you got to go, you got to go.

Needless to say it was some distance down the hill before I returned to the hard shoulder.

btw, I see sustrans have decided to rip off this thread

It was. Of course, the Curragh is famous for its horses, so I got a bit alarmed about being so near running horses, and then realised they weren't real, because they made no noise.

I do recommend cycling in near darkness away from people and traffic though. Apart from that night, it was very peaceful and strangely absorbing. I say "near darkness", because obviously you need a headlight of some kind!

MTB'er hunting is the new fox hunting. ...until someone complains and then they'll just have to settle for dragging a dead MTB'er to leave a trail across the fields so that the "hunters" can still go out and have their fun.
