bvd taggec a calf last week, it has lost the tag, i would normally put the bvd tag nearest to the calf head and the yellow tag outside that, but on this calf the bvd tag was on the outside, i am assuming once the calf has been tested there is no need to replace this tag, its a fr bull i will be selling in the mart

I think you can print off a cert from the ahi website with its number on it. Also is your mart displaying results yet? I think some of them are. Buyers should be happy with that.

I doubt you need to replace the tag but the ahi website might have an answer to that in its faq section.

id take it as the sampler not having a tissue sample in it, think a very small % of them come out this way, test again with a tag.
i got 10 general bvd tag, with no ear tags nos on them, handy for the likes of that.

First confirmed PI. A poly heifer 6 weeks old and i turned down 350 for her last week as i dont want her passing it on. She is as healthy as a stone and the standout calf in her pen.

No, out of an older cow, but the shine off her is amazing. Dont know how i am going to put down a 'healthy' calf. Christ i hate this job at times

Was that confirmed by the 2nd blood test 4wks later?
Did she have contact with other animals before being tagged?

If she is PI just get the animal collected by the knacker truck. they carry a captive bolt gun for dealing with animals on their way out.

On the plus side, when you get rid of a PI, you can look forward to an improvement in overall herd health.

I have heard people saying this, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to me - surely once animals are exposed and become immune to BVD that';s it - why would the PI go on causing them a problem???

Tried getting the auld lad to join the scheme but I might as well be talking the calves. At least they pretend to be listening to me. It was a struggle getting him to reseed the land that was last reseeded 50 years ago and he is still trying to do a half-arsed job

You believe this? I have no links for you, my bad, but I am sure someone on here will have a personal farm story of improvement after PI removal. IMHO a PI has an effect. Before an animal can become immune it must contract BVD. When they contract BVD they suffer immunosupression.
Seen massive calf health improvements, calf growth etc
