Although why the need to do this I don't get, but I'll answer anyway as it seems a genuine question.

Any thoughts on it yourself?

Edit: Valencia on form makes a huge difference as well.
My reasoning for asking was I felt the game was a watershed moment. United had gotten chased like rabbits round Rome and Ferguson reckoned he had the beating of Barca in 2011. United came up so very short for a second time. It was the conclusive proof, for me, that United were miles away from being competitive agaisnt barca. Playing personnel aside I felt tactically United were chronic that night. The idea as far as I could see was to frighten the bejaysus out of them for 10 minutes, nick a goal and then sit back and defend like men possessed. I think it was similar in Rome too. I thought there was a total absence of tactical coherency that night in Wembley, despite Ferguson's arguments to the contrary.

He was far too loyal to Hernandez imo, who had played a major part in getting to the final.

Hernandez was always going to isolated up front, and we all know he didn't have the ball skills to be effective up there. Picking Giggs was a little different as there wasn't a huge amount of other options.

I couldn't believe that we were going in at half time 1-1. I was nearly screaming at the television for him to bring off Hernandez and bring on Anderson, and then put Rooney up front on his own. It would have at least made it somewhat more difficult for Barca who were cutting us open at ease.

Was not having Berbatov in the squad a mistake? Did it need someone to hold up the ball or would he have been far to languid a presence to trouble Barca?
