New HP Laptop but no web camera software installed.
Hey Guys,I bought a new HP Pavilion dv7-6154 laptop a few weeks ago but when I went to use skype last night the camera wouldnt work.I checked the device manager and there is no sign of any web camera software installed.I have tried downloading the appropriate software from the HP website to no avail.I would appreciate any help with this.Thanks.

are there any exclamation marks, question marks or X'ses in device manager?
If none errors there, try deleting all devices from "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controllers" category and restart your laptop. Can you confirm that you don't have "imaging devices" category in device manager? I'm assuming it's Windows 7 you are using Last edited by holcus; 20-12-2011 at 03:28. |

this is a common problem with HP laptops due to a failure in the assembly process, the webcam cable is actually loose in the motherboard connection. that's why sometimes it's detected, sometimes it's not.
i would recommend you bring the laptop back to where you bought it before i'd go about disassembling it to reconnect the cable as HP laptops are notoriously tightly put together with little room for error when putting them back together...
