So gardai may soon be doing their patrols on segways? Cant link but its on rte website. Tried these in Barcelona and they're great, I can just picture them with the blues and twos on! Somehow I don't think they'll be embraced by Irish society as well as they have been by our continental counterparts!

i dont know if its worth lookin too far into but on the GRA website about the new roster they had agreed on would have needed 3000 more gardai so the are renegotiating a different roster today.... obviously to feet the cloth of the lower numbers...

Anyone see the 1 o clock news today? They had a piece on the numbers of public service employees that would be leaving before the end of feb. Brendan howlin said they only had to give 4 weeks notice that they wanted to retire. The piece didn't talk about guards but only seemed to mention teachers/hospital staff etc. But does this 4 week period of notice now apply to the gardai? Had they trouble getting the numbers down and this is a new development? Or does the 3 month period still hold for guards cos they would need more time to tidy things up in their job before leaving.

That could be because his job has been made partly redundant by the civilian operated speed vans which are paid for out of the garda budget.

related to the abolishment of freeflow also I would imagine, though freeflow is traditionally regarding as a new recruits earliest traffic management experience. There are certain larger stations which have larger traffic corps divisions, a female family member is sergeant in traffic corps in the north west and they've suffered massive cut backs.

Also, have you all seen the list of stations that will only be open restricted hours?? Howth, Malahide, Santry, Cabra, Sundrive rd., just to name a few. Madness. This could all help with publicity though, there is going to be uproar over all this.

Also, the station due to close in loughglynn is currently undergoing a €100k remodel, they're totally gutting and refurbishing the place. While I agree with the closure of the stations in Mayo as they are very close to others that can easily service them, the one in loughglynn though is mind boggling to me!
