Manually enter the ip for eg 192.168.0.3 you must also input subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Then DNS is primaray 89.101.160.4 secondary 89.101.160.5 Then repeat for all devices changing the end of the ip to 4 or 5. You must also make sure that your dynamic ip is not in this range (auto assign ip) Change it to 192.168.0.20 to 192.168.250 (its on the UPC router admin page) |

Hi Guys, I have had this issue with my Thomson router for the last 6 months.
I am a basic user, laptop for email/youtube/facebook etc, iphone and xbox live....as others have said, the connection seems to drop completely randomly....Sometimes, it will work ok for hours on end (I play a fair bit of Battlefield 3 on Xbox) and then other times, like last night, it will drop 5 times in one hour....It really is quite infuriating to constanlty lose connection in the middle of game I actually might be doing quite well in.... I am on a 7 meg deal with Smart Broadband but the speed test rarely gets up above 3.5...... Smart replaced the modem for me but it did nothing, I have also tried hooking an ethernet cable from the xbox to the router (Thus rendering both items 'wired') with no joy.....AND I have changed the channels several times....still nothing. Also, I'm not sure if this has any relevance, but the house I now own has eircom phonewatch installed which I opted not to keep on after I bought the place....yet my router is plugged into the same port in the wall the phonewatch was.... Any and all help would be muchly appreciated... I'm really at my wits end here.... Cheers. |

It could be the phonewatch.
The issues i experienced with my router on UPC were becuase other devices were accessing my router and trying to use an ip address that was already assigned. This could be what is happeing with the alarm, this is why i always tell people to assign a static ip to their consoles, so you never get kicked if another device comes on your wifi and tries to use the same ip address. |

At risk of sounding a complete novice....how would I go about assigning a static ip to my xbox? Unfortunately, my techy skills are quite limited. Cheers again. |

You can assign a static ip to any device on the device itself. So in your network settings on the xbox, set as manual ip subnet mask & DNS. With UPC the gateway is 192.168.0.1. If you are finding it difficult you can add my gameratg on Xbox live and i can talk you through it. ...GT:..Bam Bam Mickey. Hope this helps. |

OK, I went through all the steps...
Opened all the relevant ports on my routers setup page. Entered a new IP 192.168.1.11, SUbnet Mask 255.255.255.0 and Default Gateway 192.168.1.1 Changed DNS Settings to Manual and changed Primary DNS to 192.168.1.1 Ran the network test and I got a message saying the NAT Type is Strict. Played a round of BF3 with no problems but couldn't hear my mate in Party Chat. Any ideas!? |

I have also been having this problem ever since i got upgraded from 20mb to 100mb, while on 20mb i had no problem what so ever never disconnected, but as soon as i get upgrade to 100mb they send out a new modem that has a mind of it's own, it will reboot itself when it want's i have noticed it has two way's of rebooting 1:all light's go off then come straight back on within seconds 2:all light's go off and i stuck sitting there watching each light come back untill it hit's the online light which will blink for about 10 min's then all light's will light up and start again one one by one, and it's a pain in the ass, it's been like this 5+months now i might just have to switch provider
