Love the real down home blues like these, i really liked the video for the Robert Johnson song, as far as i'm concerned this is as good as it gets, i like all kinds of music but my all time favorite record is Bukka White aberdeen mississippi blues 1937-1940

Ah, Robert Johnson, the inspiration for so much that came after, one of the giants of blues music, without which rock & roll & all that came after would never have happened. In the film O Brother Where Art Thou? reference is made to how he got his skills - by making a pact with the devil, hence the song. He lived a chaotic existence that would have rivalled anything by later rock stars. Another great "down home" Mississippi bluesman was Charlie Patton, well worth checking out. Robert Johnson's material seems to have survived better, judging by the difference in sound quality between the modern recordings available for both artists.

Yeah, that and nostalgia for the saturday morning shows of my childhood in which people got splatted was the reason for the name choice. Have an original copy of Physical Graffitti - one of my most prized possessions.

Other good blues stuff to listen to would be the acoustic (his more rocked up output divides people though I personally love it) of the late RL Burnside. Somewhat different style (hill country vs delta) for the most part but well worth a listen.

A magazine called the blues collection was released in the early 90's, fiver a go and they started with John Lee Hooker, BB etc but you got a cd with it so it was well worth buying. Around the 6th edition they did a Robert Johnson edition. I was 16/17, a lot of things changed for me after hearing this man's music.

Eric Claptons tribute to Robert Johnson, "Me and Mr Johnson" is worth a listen. Early Muddy Waters stuff like "Muddys blues" is up there too.

Robert Johnson, Scrapper Blackwell, Blind lemon jefferson, Big bill broonsey (early acoustic stuff)Big Charlie Patton ,leadbelly, Rev Gary Davis,Tampa red,Merle travis(country white blues but great)..Muddy waters (i cant be satisfied) .the list goes on, There is some great music hiding out there amongst the rubbish. Some of the blues (in my opinion) is crap and some is the best music ever created, The way out of tune Chicago stuff where no one bothered to tune up can be hard on the ear, but there are hidden Gems .
