In fairness, it could mean anything. We don't know the context in which all that code got leaked; it could be something as banal as DOTA2 being developed off the back of a really early build of ep3, long since shelved. It could just be another IP with a similiar acronym. Or it could just be Valve fooking with people's heads. They are one of the cannier developers out there - they're well aware people dig through their source code.

I know that Valve have been doing quite well with their other titles and really it's more profitable to keep on doing those rather than put a finish on this saga but I do wish they would do so anyway because it's their best work in my inconsequential opinion.
However, it's been four years now since the last release so a lot of the more casual market may have forgotten about the series entirely which would be a massive pity. Hopefully if Ep3 goes get released some time in the foreseeable future, it'll be considerably longer and something special. |

Guys, Episode 3 is dead. Face it, Valve don't want to make another HL2 game, and to be honest I don't blame them. They seem to enjoy trying to come up with new IPs to work with on a continuous basis (ok, bar the odd sequel & DOTA's hardly a new idea), so I can't imagine a return to City17 would enthrall them that much. Sure, the story needs wrapping up, but as a game, what more can you do except knock-out another on autopilot?

Might be a bit hard to return to City 17

If Black Mesa ever does drop, if it gets enough of a reaction from the community then we may see the wheels start to turn. That's if it ever does drop, mind you.
Valve need to draw a line underneath it, though, just to leave their fans in no doubt. If that's as simple as an easter egg in LfD 4, where we see a deliberately crude cartoon of Gordon Freeman waking up, going "What a bad dream" and going to his shift at the laundrette then so be it. Of course, that would make chances of a Half Life Three very remote...... |

The wheels are already turning on HL3 but they will be doing something big for it, probably and engine change or major upgrade cause they whole community is expecting something spectacular yet again.
This is also Valve, they'll drop all the work they've done and start again if its not up to scratch. So announcing a game before you've finalised the main features is a bad idea. When they have something, they'll show us and they're certainly brainstorming/planning it if not continuously working on it. Clichéd screenshot but proves the point:

I'd can't imagine they would just drop it. Either it isn't working out for them in its current form or they have something totally new they don't want to talk about. We're going to see Gordon again.
