EI don't have any of the old aircraft with the old fitting since August 2009 when EI-DUB and EI-JFK were retired. at that time EI-ORD had already had the refit so was up to current standards before it was disposed of so i find this story unture. I know that this was however the case before EI operate DUB-DXB, they wanted codeshare with EK and it was a possibility. It had basically been put in place for 13 or so connections until one of the old aircraft was placed on the maiden DUB-DXB flight and then Emirates pull all intentions all together.

The story of that deal collapsing didn't come from cabin crew, Dotsy said that he/she heard it from EI cabin crew. Cabin crew would never have been privy to that info, it came from mgmt sources.

The CEO in place at the time (Mannion) was there specifically to start Eastward expansion which he then fecked up.

No-one said anything about 'an A330 going on a jaunt' to DXB. The story (which makes no sense to you) concerns the inaugural flight DUB-DXB with EK staff who had flown to DUB for pre-signing meetings with EI. Previous to this time EI were well regarded in the aviation industry. And as stated above EI were changing their product at the time. So the EK reps, I assume were expecting something different to what the actually got.

Haven't you ever meet someone on a night out, got a snog and a phone number. Then you arrange a date, meet her/him and then realise that your memory of the 1st night wasn't quite as good as you thought?

Slightly off topic but what are Aer Lingus going to do with their new A350's? They're hardly going to replace the A330's which are practically new.

when EI sent their reps to Dubai they sent them along on one of their older 330's

That's the part of the story we DIDN'T understand ! As quoted above, when we read it at the time it was posted it made no sense. Now having been clarified by others it makes sense.

As expat staff based at DXB, it's great to hear about the new route. As with nearly all our new routes, it starts out with the Minibus 330, with an eventual upgrade to the 777 depending on load factor. With more A380 routes launching every few months it should enable 777's to be redeployed. Early days yet though!

However if it's inflight entertainment your after, the A330's still have the old seatback system which is not on demand in Y class, unlike the rest of the fleet.

I think the poster means that the seats have individual screens, which are not on-demand, but have a number of channels playing material in a loop. So you can't start, stop, pause, etc when you want, but you can select different channels.

A Virgin Atlantic A340-600 diverted to Dublin during the snow storms last year. Lots of photos in this thread: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showt...p?t=2056123140

Mostly diversions due weather/tech/medical, also the use of DUB mx facilities (SRT, Dublin Aerospace, Eirtech)

Yes sorry guys, It is an individual screen for each seat, with a selection of tv, movies, and music, along with Airshow flight information channel, but on a loop system.

The 330's were due to be phased out sometime ago hence it lacks our ICE on demand system with 600 channels, and on our latest aircraft ICE Digital Widescreen with 1200 channels.

Very surprised they announced it as a 3 class configuration, as I didnt think Ireland would have a Market for a First class product these days. Rumours around HQ prior to the press release were that it would just be Business and Economy offered, similar to our Abu Dhabi based friends.

I agree but perhaps the had an easier job of freeing up a 3 class A330 over a 2 class?
