Both EI and FR stated publicly that they don't at some point - I can't find EIs claim now but FR's is on their website:

Also the detail in that article isn't overbooking by intent, but due to a mistake by another passenger.

To add, overbooking and yield management fare structures are incompatible - the risks are too high seeing as your final seats sold can be the cheapest.

Over here the government was playing silly buggers with the UAE over landing rights for EK in order to cover AC's arrse, offering 3 weekly to YYZ when EK wanted at least daily. Meanwhile the 380 into JFK was underperforming. Response - the Emirates kicked Canada out of their logistics base for Afghanistan and EK swapped the 380 into Toronto

Transiting in Dubai from Oz to DUB-Can you still be bumped off?

Hi ,

Just reading the previous comments I'm a little concerned about being bumped off a Dublin flight in Dubai having flown on a B773 14hrs from MEL. We have a 1hr 20min transfer time. Would they not prioritise transit passengers over pax starting their journey or return journey from DXB?

Thank God the A380 is coming in Oct (DXB-MEL)

Cheers

I would guess that in a case of overbooked flight they would try to bump non-connecting pax first. It is less trouble for them. If I am going MEL-DXB then all they have to do is offer me cash and a hotel room to fly the next day. Doing that to a pax with a connecting flight increases the chance that the pax will refuse and the complexity of rebooking both flights rather than just 1.

P.S. the A380 just means they will sell more tickets. 10% of 500 seats is less than 10% of 360. (A380 vs B773)
