Pye Radio Repair/Parts (Knob needed)
Hi, I need to replace a knob on this Pye radio but am having trouble getting a part - even on the internet. Would anyone be able to recommend a radio repair shop, or website or possible even have something suitable themselves?
Any help greatly appreciated - thanks! Manufacturer/Brand: Pye Ltd., Radio Works; Cambridge Model details: P53 [Irish] Year: 1951 (not my image - only need one knob)

Try http://www.crookedwood.com/Holmesaud...mes_Audio.html They started off fixing old radios - they might have what you're after, then again they may not but if you ask them, they might give you another place to try. |

If you look up the domain name, there is a contact phone number listed. I dont know if he/she would take too kindly to being rung up and asked ''Do ye have a knob that would suit my radio ?"

Right.... and you may have got this reply direct too. A man I know has asked me for a picture of the knob you need. Now before you start laughing.... try and see if any of the knobs you still have will fit and look decent in the ''missing'' position. If the knob you moved does the job, take it off again and take a few decent pictures of it from various angles and post them here or post them on some picture sharing sitre and post the URL's. After that.... I can't do much for you (yet). |

He said it's this
http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showp...01&postcount=1 AFAIK the knobs on those are all the same. Occasionally a tuning knob is different. Trying to remove them can break them. There is help here http://vintagetvandradio.myfreeforum.org/index.php But if you use gmail etc it may incorrectly mark forum activation emails as junk/spam. Thanks very much guys.
No email in the junk folder but found an email address from that link and am trying that. It's the on/off (far left) knob. Don't know if these pictures are any clearer. I don't want to pull them too much, tried gently but am a bit afraid - the bakelite/plastic seems brittle enough. They don't look any different, not sure if they are or not. Thanks a million for all your help. |

pye p53
hi sibeal, the pye in the picture is still in my possession and fully restored, i had several spare push on knobs up to recently , but gave them to other guys, however ill keep an eye out in the future for any spares , shouldent be too difficult because they are quite plentiful as knobs go,
my gallery of radios in my collection is available on facebook, its dublin ireland vintage radio club, if you fancy looking in , some of the guys in there might have some spare knobs , best regards maitiu. |

The knobs on these radios had their functions marked on them. |

I have a Pye 39 JH/E. In fact looks like similar knobs. The wavechange, tuning and volume appear to be original. But close examination reveals the power/tone presets knob has a lesser number of wavebands marked on it. One knob has a grubscrew (but not the knob with wrong writing) and the other 3 are push on.
You'd hardly notice the embossed labels on the knobs. It's possible to make a mould and model using isopon. But I've not tried this for a knob yet. However the OP may have gone off and not returned. Still we are not charged for chatting amongst ourselves. |
