Jason Pearce is a very good first signing(apparently a done deal), the lad has been POTY the last two seasons with his respective clubs and has the leadership qualities vital for defence. He was the Captain of a Pompey side who boast a lot of seasoned players, so to get the armband in that team is a great acheivement for a lad his age. You can also be sure there was a lot of competition for him.
I know people talk about their hate of freebies but just having a think there, we could actually create the remaining of the backline with freebies and have a good defence. Now obviously we might be retaining some of our current squad for the first team but this is just an example of the value out there,
-------------Lewis-------------
-McCleary--Pearce--Hall--Hill-
Lewis - Been released by P'Boro today, Warnock was looking at him when he was QPR boss
McCleary - Warnock said he wants pace and he's seen first hand what this lad did to us at Elland Rd
Pearce - Apparently done deal
Hall - 6ft4" knows Warnock, has plenty of experience in the league
Hill - Also knows Warnock, and has been linked
These are just some players I know won't command a transfer fee, obviously still wages to be paid, and of course there's a chance some of the current crop will retain their place.
I see Richard Keogh has won POTY again at Coventry this season, another young CD, which we could get at a good price considering Coventry's position.
In midfield, Darren Ambrose has only a year left on his Palace contract I think and is another player Warnock knows well. Would add experience in the spine of the team and has goals in his game. I mention him as I believe Warnock was linked with him at QPR.
I'd say I've as many players in my head as Warnock so I may go asleep before I write a scouting report.
