If you're short on cash buy the 3DS since it's properly priced now, alas the games available for the 3DS suck monkey balls big time but there's some glimmer of hopes on the horizon with MarioLand 3D and MarioKart 7.
Atleast there are a few good nintendo series like mario and starfox on it plus the vc games

Anyone tried Emulating the N64 on the 3ds or is it even possible yet?

Once the 3ds gets properly hacked i will invest in one and when the vita comes out i will invest in a bargain basement psp

Personally I think I've made a decision and that is to skip the 3DS and see how the Vita fares.

I've tried to like the 3DS but the 3D effect wrecks my eyes after a while. The price drop nearly tempted me but I just can't see any games I'd want now or in the near future.

Grabbed a PSP last week as a test bed really, see how that goes. If the Vita can deliver on the shooters like the PSP does, I'm sold.

The PSP: a great selection of 2D games that are often close to unplayable given the crappiness of the controls. Nice to have all the Parodius games in one place, but TBH it's an absolute joke trying to play them.

There's mods and sods for it though no?

Either way it won't kill my buzz for Darius Burst!

Senór_Ultimate is correct the PSP controls are rubbish the D-pad is atrocious and as for the analogue pad they could have saved themselves the hassle and not included it in the design.
That said the PSP is bloody great and has a huge library of kick áss games and glut of utter garbage to boot so be careful whuch game you buy/download

Yeah it has an absolutely superb collection of obscurities and fantastic JRPGs and the like (oh Ys, how I love ye!) but only in the slowest paced games (or things like SRPGs where you can take your time with selection) will you forget the control issues. Anything that requires accuracy can be endlessly frustrating. Even Ys Oath in Felghana, which may be one of the best games on the system, makes you want to toss the console during some of the more 'jumpy' bits.

There are possibly mods, I haven't looked into it. But it is up there with the worst the default controls any console actually has. It has plenty to make up for it though.
