Bought a Sony Bravia KDL32CX520

Isn't picking up a sniff in Castlebar.

It's been so long since I used the coaxial connection that I genuinely can't remember what the signal was like- have only used Sky the past few years.

What's the basic things I should be looking at to troubleshoot aerial/antenna problems?

Am I even missing out on anything, seeing as I have Sky?

Do you have a UHF aerial pointing at the your nearest Saorview transmitter, Castlebar I assume?

Can you pick up the analogue channels via the aerial, if so, what channels?

Is the co-ax cable from the aerial to the TV point in good condition?

Have you checked the connections from the aerial to the TV point?

anyone know if this hannspree from extravision will work with saorview. The guy in the store was saying that it wasn't saorview approved but that it should work with saorview. I got back onto him and he wasn't as sure as he had said we could only get store credit if wanted to return it. It has a dbt-t mpeg-4 avc(h-264) with CI+/PAL/SECAM MHEG5

this is the link to the one i'm talking about
http://www.xtravision.ie/electronic/...-SV32LM-32-LED

also i couldn't see if it was just freeview. It doesn't really say on the specs sheet he gave me

Works with freeview, no any details about MPEG4, and it is discontinued model wouldn't risk.

From specs it will:
TV Reception System SDTV and HDTV (MPEG-4 AVC H.264), DVB-T with Common Interface. PAL / SECAM

I installed few hannspree TV's and they work no problem.

I wasn't sure if it would or not. Going by what watty said earlier in the thread (post #5) it wouldn't as it only has Freeview and not Freeview HD. Also, it's not listed on the Saorview website. I found this on the Official Irish DTT Website which seems to back up what watty said.

Quote:
Official Irish DTT Website Saorview (link) since 29th October 2010
Also RTE NL Official Saorview Link
WARNING:
Most UK origin Digital TVs and setboxes, especially branded "Freeview" will NOT work. ("Freeview HD" will work, but not HD Ready or Full HD with "Freeview")
The Neotion "CAMs" such as Pocket Duo or NP4 will not convert TVs or Set-boxes
Digital TVs that don't work due to lack of MPEG4 can only be used with separate Set-box, not converted or upgraded.
The Sagem Picnic MPEG4 set-box will stop working. These don't do HD.
Even if you have no HDTV you need a set-box that does HD for Saorview
(it will downconvert to SCART).
French TNT HD does NOT do MHEG5, thus if you don't get true Saorview, the UK "Freeview HD" is recommended.
RTÉ Free-to-Air DTT Receiver Specifications prior to November 2010

Some Freeview sets do work, approximately. But it's not worth it as they are all obsolete models.
Only buy an actual Saorview Certified set, or if you can receive N.I., or IOM or Wales as well as Irish TV, then get only a "Freeview HD" set.

Freeview only sets are huge risk even if they do MPEG4 and HD. It's not worth it.

I have a neighbour who has a Samsung LE40C550J1W 40 inch set bought around 12 months ago.

He has a decent enough TV3 /TG4 , RTE 1 and RTE 2 from his analogue aerial. Technically if this TV is MPEG 4 enabled then if i plug the Aerial directly into the TV and retune he should get All his saorview channels? I cannot tell if this set is MPEG4 or not by searching the net.

However I did try retuning his TV and all I got were the Freeview channels.
What could be the problem? Do I need to plug in a signal booster? or is it that this set has not got mpeg4 tuning?

In the Fermanagh area , about 5 miles from the Border with Blacklion so signal from sligo should be good, although by the look of his Aerial it is pointing towards Longford.

There's a relay transmitter near there, serving the Belcoo area.

It uses & will continue to use the same UHF channels as Cairn Hill (Longford) is allocated for Saorview. It currently has Channel 4 analogue on UHF channel 47, so will interfere with Cairn Hill Saorview.
