hi, i am thinking of booking a holiday in bettystown on a caravan park i would be coming from england have 3 young kids just want a quiet break for me but things to do with children is the beach good and is the fun fair ok i have been to wicklow before that was lovely but thought this might be nice to try travelling alone so want somewhere thats fun and safe any comments appreciated thanks

i had a look at clogherhead but not sure im gonna travel by ferry dont like to fly stayed at hidden valley in wicklow before want some where not to far out from dublin ferry port because i would get a cab wicklow was about an hour loved it there but lots of edges, i like looking at mountains but not going up em, where could i go that is child friendly has a beach beautiful green fields a few tourist attractions a couple of restutants and for me a bit of irish music somewhere flat this time took the train from rathdrum to bray last time and nearly had a heart attack any suggestions would be great

I live in Bettystown.

I suppose in terms of children it depends what age they are. The beach is beautiful, but packed on a sunny day. It is large so there is plenty of space to move around, but people usually stay in a small spot for some reason!

I think its a nice walk up the Dunes. Also, if you go down to the Mornington side of the beach there are big dunes your children can play on. You can also fish off the rocks at the Estuary of the River Boyne.

There is Funtasia (which is a childrens play centre) that caters for most children from 2 upwards. There are video games, pool tables (crap tables, but fun for kids I guess) and bowling.

For you, there are some nice local pubs. My favourate is Morans, although you would have to get a taxi from Bettystown (shouldnt be much more then €7 or so. Its got a real old school feel to it, but just recently they setup a new part which has over doubled the size so you have the choice of old/new.I have always found the locals very friendly and the crowd nice.

There is a local pub called the Last straw that has loads of stuff on recently (including Paddy Casey). Used to be a rough enough pub, but from what I have seen (havent been in it myself, but drive past it regularly), it seems to get ok crowds and havent heard anything bad since new owners did it up.

Bettystown is close to Drogheda (big enough town), where there is a cinema, shops and usual stuff you would get in towns.

BTW if you do come here I prefer the chippy across from McDonaghs pub (up near Tescos) as they give you real chicken and chips (leg, breast etc).

Also, there are lovely places to eat. The bistro on the beach is nice with a good menu. Fate resteraunt has nice Asian food and Relish has a lovely sea view with a good menu. We are blessed with good options in that regards.

There is a place called Sonairte http://sonairte.ie/ thats nice (if your into that sort of stuff) and there is a nice walk around it, particularly for birdwatchers.

I'm a 21 years old girl and I'm in Bettystown till September. Does anybody know where I can go out at night? some bar, pub... for people of my age more or less?

Jump in a taxi to Drogheda, few decent pubs in there, prefer mcphails myself, then fusion or earth, I suppose purple room on a saturday either. To be honest I havent been out in drogheda in about 1.5 years or so. If you're not from the area you may find more amusing than I do though!

I live in Bettystown and wonder at why it attracts daytrippers let alone someone travelling all the way over from England. Gotta be better options surely? Ah well, bit late now...

I'm from Spain and I'm aupairing in Bettystown. That's why I'm in Bettystown till September and I would like to meet some people of my age. I don't have much choice. Anyway... thanks for answer.
