Suikoden 2

Has anyone else played Suikoden 2? It is my favorite JPRG so far that I'm on a 2nd playthrough after completing it. I think everyone should play this if you have an interest in JRPGs.

Highly recommended.

It was the only game to make me get genuinely upset

Spoiler: Nanami's death scene, I know you could save her but still hit me like a brick, especially when they said "oh she's breathing" so I thought she was grand and then Dr. Huan said "I wasn't strong enough" and it just tore me down. She was my favorite character and I had my best equipment on her and everything >.>

Has anyone else here played it and what are your opinions of it?

One of the best games I've ever played, great story and dialogue. Over a hundred characters, and I loved the way the battles turned from rpg to strategy. My favourite character was the tactician, he had some great lines.
I also played 1 and 4. Any others worth getting?

Suikoden 2 is an absolute masterpiece and one of the greatest RPGs ever made. Forget Sephiroth, Luca Blight is a real villain! 'Die Pig!'. It has a simple but fast battle system and for a PS1 RPG it has no battle system load times which is a blessing. The battles get much more tactical for the boss fights. The 2D art is amazing and the soundtrack is wonderful. And then there's the fantastic heartbreaking storyline. It was my favourite game ever for a long time and I still think it's amazing.

As for the rest of the series Suikoden 3 is worth playing but it never got a PAL release. Suikoden 5 is a fantastic game and highly recommended and almost as good as Suikoden 2.

Yeah it got completely ignored on release since it came out close to the release of FFVIII i europe and on the same day in the US. History has shown what is the better game though

Yeah I loved the animation, looked so clean and smooth. I love the battle system too especially when you press auto and they just all attack

You know a lot of love has gone into a 2D project when there's loads of animation frames that are only used once in a game. I read somewhere that the opening credit sequence probably has more frames of sprite animation than a snes game and most of them are only used for that scene only. Only other game I've seen so much care and attention paid to the 2D visuals was Mother 3 which so happens to be my current favourite game ever

Create a US PSN account and buy some US points online and try to get your hands on the original. Not as good as it's sequel but still brilliant. V is excellent too.
Konami really need to make VI...

I love Suikoden 2. I bought on a whim in August 2000, spent the rest of the summer playing it. Luca Blight will remain etched in any player's memory forever! Did they ever conclude the Yuber/Pesmerga storyline?

I have the first one from the US PSN, but I haven't played it much. If the second one came out to download, I'd feel obliged to finally play through the first so I could finally experience the extra sidequest that you can play if you load a save from the first game in the second!

Amazing game, so many great characters, Viktor was a proper awesome guy and Luca Blight was an amazing boss fight. There's so many well developed characters no matter who you are you'll probably find some you love

Suikoden 1 is "on the way" to PSN Europe and it is understood that Suikoden 2 will shortly follow.

but yes, there is currently no way of playing Suikoden 2 unless you have a old PSX and a copy of the game, which could cost you upwards of 200 quid.

I have a copy, the one I bought when it came out first. But it's flawed; the CG sequences break the game, and when they're finished the graphics are all messed.
I need to decipher the pixel squiggles to reach an Inn, Save, then reload the game before I'm away.
