Potential story/non-story

http://limerickrugby.ie/news-1869/Di...-Friday-night-

IT takes the eagle-eyed Limerick rugby public to spot any alleged breach of the AIL rules and we have had enquiries regarding the Cork Constitution line-up for last Friday night's league game against Dolphin.

If the team line-up which we received is correct, then maybe, just maybe, they have a point. According to that list 'Con' fielded Ian Nagle in the pack and both Simon Zebo and Scott Deasy in the backline. According to the AIL rules you can only play two players with provincial contracts in any game in the AIL this season. The question is, are Nagle, Zebo and Deasy all full-contract players? According to the Munster 2011/12 squad, printed in the programme for their last game against the Ospreys in Thomond Park, all three are listed without any reference to being without full contracts.

No doubt, there is some explanation. Maybe the team sheet was incorrect.

I'm fairly sure they are all on full contracts.

All three are on full contracts as per munsterrugby.ie

Can anyone confirm if the team sheet was right? I personally thought that it was unlikely that Nagle would actually be played at 6 and suspected a misake when I read it first.

On a side note, the rule is a tad ridiculous. All 3 of those players need gametime at club level to keep match sharp.

They should have been given developmental contracts to ensure they could play enough club regularly. All three are players that need experience in games to further their development and should be playing regularly.

Buccaneers Deducted Ulster Bank League Points

25 November 2011, 9:01 am
By Editor

Hendre Marnitz's Buccaneers side have been in impressive form in Ulster Bank League Division 1B, winning their first five games of the campaign.

The Irish Rugby Football Union All-Ireland League Sub-Committee held a hearing to consider a possible breach of regulation by Ulster Bank League Division 1B club Buccaneers RFC in relation to the fielding of an ineligible player during a league match on Saturday, October 1.
Buccaneers RFC were asked to answer charges that it was in contravention of Ulster Bank League regulation 9.14 (Player registration and eligibility). The hearing took place in the IRFU offices in Dublin and was chaired by Ian McIlrath.

Having considered all of the available evidence, the All-Ireland League Sub-Committee found that Buccaneers RFC were guilty under regulation 9.14.2 of fielding an ineligible player. The Sub-Committee took into account the admission of the breach of regulation by Buccaneers RFC before it imposed a sanction of the immediate deduction of two Ulster Bank League Division 1B points.

Just on this, Con fielded Zebo, Archer, Deasy and John Ryan against Clontarf. From Munster website Zebo Archer and Deasy are all on full contracts.

wonder who Bucc's fielded, they're pretty strong with connacht players

Anyway on a playing front i'm looking forward to seeing Clontarf putting manners on Shannon tomorrow.

i agree but them's the rules, personally i think there should be no issue with contracted players in 1A, these rules should apply to 1B and below.

I'm told it's no-one too significant, a 21-year-old former Corinthians prop named James Robinson. Apparently they signed a glut of players close to the deadline for registration and his paperwork got lost in the muddle!

good win for Tarf against a poor/weak shannon team, the poorest performance i remember seeing from a Shannon team.
Big game next week away to Mary's, never an easy place to win.

Ulster Bank League: Division 2B Previews

8 December 2011, 6:00 am
By Barry Cunningham

There is an historic game to be played in Tipperary this weekend when Cashel host local rivals Nenagh Ormond - the first time two clubs from Tipp have met at senior level in Irish rugby. This is the last weekend of action in Division 2B of the Ulster Bank League before Christmas.

ULSTER BANK LEAGUE: DIVISION 2A: Saturday, December 10

Kick-off 2.30pm unless stated -

Cashel (1st) v Nenagh Ormond (5th), Spafield, 1pm
An historic day for rugby in Tipperary with two sides from the county meeting at senior level in the Ulster Bank League for the first time.
The match is given added spice by the fact that the new boys Cashel are riding high at the top of the table and currently unbeaten.
The hosts have conceded only 38 points so far but that could all go out the window in a derby game. Irish Rugby TV will be on hand to record the game for highlights. The early start means you can also catch the Munster match in the clubhouse afterwards.
Banbridge (4th) v Ards (14th), Rifle Park
Banbridge's win over Rainey Old Boys last week saw them move into fourth place in the table, level with Nenagh Ormond. They face another Ulster derby this weekend at Rifle Park.
Ards got thumped by league leaders Cashel last time out but they will still be hoping to do to Banbridge what Bann did Rainey the week before.
Form favours the hosts, though, and they should be strong enough to take the points on Saturday.
Boyne (8th) v Highfield (6th), Shamrock Lodge
This is the kind of interprovincial clash the Ulster Bank League thrives on - two community-based clubs meeting for the first time at this level.
Boyne have adjusted reasonably well to life in the league and last weekend's one-point victory over Armagh has improved their win/loss ratio.
Highfield are still in the running near the top of the table but need a result this weekend to stay in touch. They had a good win over Naas last weekend but Boyne will make for stiffer opposition on the road.
Navan (12th) v Armagh (10th), Balreask Old
Navan went down to Nenagh Ormond last weekend and while they are clear of the relegation zone they cannot afford to feel comfortable yet.
Armagh make the trip to Navan having lost at home to Navan's arch rivals Boyne last weekend. These two former junior clubs go head to head with points badly needed for a comfortable Christmas.
That said, they should serve up a good game and will be well supported at Balreask Old.
NUIM Barnhall (3rd) v Sunday's Well (13th), Parsonstown
NUIM Barnhall return to Leixlip following a successful stint in Maynooth and a win on the road at Suttonians last weekend.
Five wins and three try-scoring bonus points testify that the home side are in good form this season and are a real force to be reckoned with.
The 'Well, like Navan. are clear of the relegation zone but only just. Another loss for them this weekend would open the door for Ards or Naas.
Sligo (11th) v Rainey Old Boys (2nd), Hamilton Park
Sligo picked up a much-needed win last weekend on the road but they face a much sterner examination on Saturday when they welcome Rainey Old Boys to Strandhill.
The former Ulster junior side will know just what to expect on their visit to the west and with four try-scoring bonuses to their name look capable of dealing with it.
An away win is on the cards then as Sligo continue to adjust to life as a senior club.
Suttonians (9th) v Naas (15th), JJ McDowell Memorial Grounds
The Sutton side are mid-table with 14 points but would like at least one win from this block of three pre-Christmas games.
Naas are struggling badly this season with only one win in seven games and only one losing bonus point from their six losses.
You would have to back Suttonians to take the points at home as they gear up for Christmas and their annual Fat Turkey Walk in aid of the IRFU Charitable Trust.
Connemara play Wanderers in January.
http://www.irishrugby.ie/news/24983.php

The biggest and most important AIL game that will be played this season is on saturday, Tipps first ever derby game. 1st v 5th, should be a good game

The Irish Times - Friday, January 6, 2012 Player loses sight in eye following incident
GERRY HAND
A TALENTED junior rugby player has lost the sight in his right eye following an alleged gouging incident at the end of an AIL Division Two game last month.
Eoin Collins (32), a former captain of the Leinster Junior inter pro side, was lining out as a backrow forward for Drogheda- based Boyne RFC against Cork side Highfield on December 12th when the incident occurred.
A Highfield player has been cited, for allegedly eye-gouging Collins and an IRFU disciplinary hearing will investigate the matter later this month.
Collins confirmed: “Apart from being able to see a small bit of shadow I have no vision at all in my right eye, and I honestly do not know what the future holds for me now.
“It happened in a maul at the very end of the game, I knew it was bad because my vision went black, there was bleeding and the pain was horrific.
“It was very upsetting at the time, but it really sunk in over Christmas when I was looking forward to spending time with friends and family and just couldn’t enjoy it, and that made me feel angry over the whole thing.”
Collins had just started work as a sales rep, but as he is now unable to drive he has no idea how things will work out in that regard.
“My primary concern is to get sight back in the eye so I can have some quality of life, I will just have to wait and see what level of sight comes back in time, if any does. I doubt I will play rugby again though.”
Collins was brought to the Mater Hospital and surgeons immediately operated on his ruptured eye socket.
“The club doctor, Dr Lynn and our physio, Ian McGovern, did brilliantly by me, they got me to the Mater straight away and that was absolutely vital, the surgeons have told me that the speed with which I was treated may well stand to me in the future.”
IRFU spokesman Karl Richardson stated: “I am not aware of that specific incident, however, our disciplinary panel meets regularly during the season to deal with dismissals and citings.
“If DVD or video evidence is available they would view that and in fact they will take all available evidence into consideration.”
Highfield secretary Fergus O’Mahony revealed his club have already been contacted by the IRFU.
“They have spoken to us, we have been informed that a named player on our team has been cited by Boyne for eye-gouging. On the day of the game we left the venue not knowing anything about it as it was never mentioned to us at all.
“We have already forwarded a copy of our DVD of the match to the IRFU.
“It seems like a horrible injury, and certainly we hope the chap makes a full recovery; we haven’t endeavoured to contact either him or the club as of yet as we feel it would be inappropriate to do so until the investigation is concluded.
“I would stress though that at the moment it is only an allegation against our player, and like anybody else he has to be presumed innocent until it can be proved otherwise.”
Horrible injury, hope he can regain some sight in the eye
