I usually spend the first few minutes of playing that game going

'WEEEEEEEEEEEE' while zooming in and out over and over.

Can never seem to settle on a zoom setting to stick with!

Just managed a no-miss (!) 1cc run on Maniac Mushimesama on the iPad First time I've ever managed anything of the sort.

I know this might be a controversial opinion, but I'm genuinely surprised at how accurate the touch-screen is at squeezing through some of the more manic bullet patterns. Either that or they just made the game a bit easier. Bit of both maybe! I've been a cynic about iOS shooters for a while, but I r impressed.

Think Esp2 is way too expensive, especially since I have the 360 version. I only have access to the iPad when I'm at home, so not worth my while buying anything other than the games that aren't available elsewhere.

Have to agree with Mr. U on this one. If you have the 360 edition, it makes little sense to buy the HD iOS version, especially if you have the SD iOS edition. I have the original iPad anyway so can't play it but even still, I think it should have been offered for free to purchasers of the SD version as a goodwill gesture.

I don't like how Cave (and other publishers) are adding in-game DLC either. The amount of crap you needed to buy to improve your game with Deathsmiles was an absolute joke. The control systems are annoying too, but for gaming on the iOS it's head and shoulders above other genre titles on the platform.

However, I smear this post with hypocrisy as I buy all the Cave iOS titles regardless to support them, except Espgaluda II HD.

Playing Espgaluda II HD on my flight to Japan at the end of December. Totally worth the price alone

I mean realistically its the price of say 3 cups of coffee in town. People have got so used to paying 79c for most games and apps on iOS that when they see something for 5 or 10 euro they go crazy. Yet if they came across an old game in rage or elsewhere they'd probably go "ahh its only a fiver, worth the risk". Especially if its a Cave game.

Of course you're not meant to play the iPad version at home if you have the 360 or arcade versions as they are far superior, from a control point alone. But if you only using your iPad at home you're doing it wrong

Sounds like the old Budget and Full Price days on the C64.

I agree though, they're OK for gaming on the go. I take my iPad everywhere so get the most out of the games. Though in honesty I spend more time reading magazines and scouring the Internet on it than playing games.

Yeah, I'm the same if I'm honest. I run splashtop and logmein on it a lot when I'm traveling so I can use my PC at home for other stuff.

But I have been playing games a bit more since I got the iPad 2 for some reason.

I have absolutely no problem with paying more than 79c for an app store game. 8.99 (or over a fiver for a one mode version) however, is pushing it a wee bit! This coming from someone who happily paid well over fifty euro for my import copies of Espgaluda and Mushimesama Futari.

iPad isn't mine, so the on-the-go aspect is irrelevant for me. But four euro for a copy of Bug Princess, with multiple modes and more than servicable graphics is IMO great value. 8.99 for an inferior version of Espgaluda that I already own is pushing it - although maybe if I was travelling with it alot my opinion would change. Perhaps when I have a job I won't be so cheap

Do you not think bug princess is a blurry iPhone 3GS up-scaled mess on the iPad?

It might be a bit pricier but Espgaluda 2 HD lots really sharp in comparison.

Bug Princess:

I don't think it looks bad at all (and you picked a particularly unflattering screenshot there ). In action it looks if not 'great' than more than adequate. It's a little washed out, but nothing I didn't get over within five seconds of the bullets filling the screen!

HD is always a nice extra, I'd be hypocritical if I denied that. But blurry mess Bug Panic is not. It likely would not have been worth Cave's while to update a game that was never designed in HD in the first place for the niche iOS audience that plays their game.

Every single screenshot i take looks like that, every one.
I mean I'm sure it looks ok on the iPhone but on the larger iPad screen it just looks blurry to me. If they even gave the option to turn off anti-aliasing that would go a long way to helping. I can live with blocky pixels, just not the blur, never the blur.

Well I'm not playing full screen anyway - I much prefer having the full 'touch space' at the bottom of the screen to allow for unblocked bullet dodging when necessary.

I'm not denying it looks a little blurry - and the colours look noticeable washed out - compared to crisp HD, but it's barely noticeable to the point of irrelevancy for me. As long as I can dodge anything purple like a boss, it's all good.
