Trailers made from cars

Another post here shows a delorean with a trailer that looks like the front of another delorean (hopefully it was made with spare parts – as opposed to lopping the front off another example of the mark !!)

But it got me thinking about the old days. Remember when people made trailers with the back of panel vans. I remember Mk 1&2 escorts and Renault fours in particular, has anybody got any photographs of these conversions or any interesting car based trailers ??

I assume the reason we don’t see similar conversions nowadays based on say caddies/Incas or berlingos is EU hi-vis health and safety???

They are actually made from new, I thought they were butchered vans at first.

On the subject my old man cut the front axle from a perfectly sound Heinkel Bubble car to be used on a trailer in the early 70's. I never forgave him for that.

In the 70's and early 80's you could trip over Renault L van trailer converts around the country. popular with farmers..

Involves a lot more butchering than you'd like, but there are lots of Mini trailers

I'd love to cut a rusty MK1 Toyota MR2 in half to make a trailer to tow behing my MK1 MR2. Someday maybe. Probably a good bit of work involved.
