I have an 06' SSangyong Rodeus, 2.7 TD that is taking about 15 seconds to start when cold in the mornings. It turns over and then eventually kicks in.
This has been happening for about 3 weeks at this stage,I replaced the battery, originally I thought it was a battery problem because it kept running down when trying to start it cold, all five glow plugs were replaced, serviced with new filters and oil. I also used a diesel treatment recommended by a doe center in Clondalkin, just in case dirty diesel was the culprit, but no joy. Can anyone give me a pointer of what I should look at next, funds are low at the moment so getting a diagnostic will have to wait.

I presume whoever changed the heater plugs checked that they are actually getting power.
On an unrelated note, why did you buy the most unbelievably ugly car ever made?

Eh no I didn't. Is it a case of just connecting them out of the engine and seeing if they light,like you check a spark plug for a spark? if not I have no idea how to.

Yes, you can manually check the plugs by putting 12V across them. However, if they were replaced as you say then the chances are its more an issue of power getting to the plugs than them having failed

If you try heating the engine four or five times before you try to start it, does that help?

If you mean Fingers,turning on ignition until glow light goes out,not 5 times no, I have been surprised this week with upturn in the weather that the glow light was only staying on for a nano second,I actually thought the bulb was blown because I didn't see the light at all some mornings. I had been used to the light staying on for 5 or 6 seconds before I changed the plugs, so was assuming it coming on for a such a short time was a result of the new plugs,but I'll get them checked now that it's been mentioned.
