Urban Trails Series ~ Marlay Park

Any boardsies signed up to do the urban trails series race on the 12th of March???

The last one in Tymon Park was great craic on a challenging enough course. Think the Marlay race is slightly longer with 5.25k and 10.5k options. Not too much info about it on the site though.

http://www.urbantrailsireland.com/

I'm signed up and looking forward to a great race!

Looking forward to this. Tymon was tough with the conditions as they were. I signed up for 3. Think they may be planning an additional race in May (according to their FB page)

Doing this as well. Hoping the underfoot conditions are not as bad as Tymon. Was funny though slipping and sliding all over the place.

I'm hoping to do this race myself, gonna be my first one!
Couple of questions though, would be great if anyone could give me some advice.
Im not sure about doing the 5 or 10K, I'm confident I can run the 10 but would be quite slow doing it, is this considered a fast race ie would it be bad form to be a slow runner on this course.
Ran 7.5K yetserday at a relatively ok pace, had to stop at one point with calf tightness but I reckon this was due to training two days in a row.
I guess I could do the 5 at a faster pace.

There was a good mix of beginners/novices and experienced runners at the last race in Tymon. Check out the results on their website and it will give you an idea of the times achieved. Conditions were muddy in Tymon, should be better in Marlay after the recent dry spell.

I've jsut entered this as well, I run around Marlay Park every week and know most of the tracks / paths in there, I always wear normal runners, are they ok for this or is it going to be run on the grass?

I'd say there will be some grass sections as well, but I was up in Marlay running this morning and the grass/trails are very dry. If the weather stays like this, you'd get away with wearing normal runners no problem. Personally though as soon as I'm running off road I prefer to be in trail runners, just for better grip.

Cheers ac, still not sure looking at those times what I'll go for, might just go the 5K.

It is either one lap or 2 laps of the same course so there is no panic really with which you want to go for. If you feel you can do the 10K then I would go for it and not worry about your time.

I'm not familiar with Marlay myself, does anyone think the entire race could be run on a trail or will it be a mix of grass and trail like in Tymon?

Defo not mountain run! Road shoes will be fine to get around the course but you might see the merits of getting a pair of trail shoes after the race. All depends on whether the rain holds off!!
