It seems like an insane amount of miles when you look at it first but the pace is generally slow, and the driving whilst long shouldn't push a car too far. If you look at some of the cars that too part last year, we feel it should be manageable in any car that is deemed roadworthy.

Its a long way but this year we hope to have the added benefit of having a mechanic joining us and he will be available to all participants throughout the weekend.

Its always possible to join in the event and sign up as a passenger. Last year, Boards.ie's very own Randylonghorn and Tallon both had the pleasure of being passengers and this proved to be an especially popular move as they regularly changed cars and got to see the country whilst being driven around by some really friendly people while enjoying many different cars and driving styles.

I'm sure either/both would love to give their own opinion if asked by PM. We are very proud of the fact that we are very open to everyone with this event, and we try to accommodate any special needs or requests where at all possible.

Don't forget QueenOfLeon and my own passenger, who sadly isn't on boards!

Although he did say it was an amazing trip!

Honestly, I did the Scally Rally Ireland last year, which is pretty similar to that stretch and there was very few cars that died on that trip (doing 1200 miles in 4 days).

What has to be said, those cars were all bought for 130 quid or less, then NCT'd (if they didn't have an NCT) and out of the 59 cars at the start only 3 of them died during the trip. (On one Mondeo the clutch died. One Rialto, Reliant Robin Van, went on fire in Dingle and one Volvo 940 Estate the engine died, but that one was spitting oil already before the rally started).

So honestly, any ol' banger will do and handle the trip, if you just make sure, it's mechanically roadworthy.

One team managed to get a replacement car twice (the ones with the Mondeo), during the rally.

/M

There will be a core bunch that know each other from last year, but from looking at the list there are at least 6 names that I don't have a clue who they are. For me though thats what I love about getting involved. Last year we done it with 13 people and I was one of the main organizers and I had only met 4 of them people before. We had people pulling up into the carpark with no clue who was waiting for them, and thats what made the weekend great. We all got on brilliantly and it was the effort of doing the drive for a common cause brought us all together. The deposit (€200) and the requisite for drivers to collect a certain amount of money meant that the people who took part were serious about it, and weren't just there to take the p**s or act the p***k. They were a genuine bunch of lads, who all liked their cars, and all were there for the experience. Most of them have returned for this year, and thats a good tribute to how good they found the event last year, and also a good sign of how we hope this year will go.

I can also add to that, Quazzie/Domo-Kun, that even though some of us may not have known each other the banter we had over the weekend was awesome. The biggest contributing factor to that, in my opinion, was the walkie-talkies! Serious amount of fun with them and nearly everybody was laughing the whole way around really!

Don't mention the hotels at night and walkie-talkies in the same sentence though

I've moved a selection of posts to a new thread just in an effort to keep the sign up thread free of non sign up posts.

Well I'd be hoping that all participants have full and valid license and insurance to drive both here and in the Northern counties. If they don't then they certainly shouldn't be taking part in a Charity drive or driving at all for that matter. This year as with last year we reserve the right of admission to the event to anyone without all paperwork that makes them or their car eligible. That goes for License, Tax, Insurance, and NCT. The refusal of admission can and will be issued if we find there to be a problem with any of these. This can happen at any stage and will not result in a refund of any deposits or funds raised.

I wouldnt think any banned drivers would want to be taking a risk of driving around Ireland for Charity, and the conditions for entry to ATWR state you need a valid driving license and insurance (neither of which a disqualified driver would have).

Nearly shat myself Raised an eyebrow there for a second there when I misread the title and thought they were goin recgonise speeding offenses either side of the border!

News doesn't affect us as anyone banned wont be taking part and anyone that does something stupid enough to get banned on the trip will be ejected from the event with their accommodation being canceled and no refunds of either the deposit or the funds raised.

@Jemmy have you not got a new car yet? Your as bad as Bryn!
