I didnt know there was still salmon in the liffey. Thats a good sign that its not too polluted.

Yes it is a good sign,

but those who live in lucan and ever walked lucan park, they know that all the sewage from cellbridge are dumped into Liffey river just above the lucan village...

and thisnk they specifically do it when the water level in liffey is high (hence the power station releases more water and that they dump the sewage from celbridge... it is sad especially at this stage of "industrial development"...

the other difficulty for salmon is the power station dumb.

the salmon can go upstream through the salmon waterway pass, but on the way back it is not easy to find the return way back to the sea...

when going upstream salmon headed to the high water streams and finds the water pass specially built for this purpose,

but on the way down it can not find the same waterpass, and as you can imagine stays inside the water store till the end of it...

some great design... engineers were probably from japan....?

Yeah, same problem exists for the Erne salmon at the Ballyshannon dam; it's thought the smolts generally go down through the turbines eventually. Hence they have built a restocking hatchery just below the dam.

Nice video. The Vikings were obviously well impressed with the number of fish at the time when they first sailed up to Leixlip and named it "Salmon Leap".

You should try ringing your local fishery board to report this when you see it happening, they have environmental officers employed to deal with pollution issues

I don't think the environmental officers can do much about the licensed discharge of treated sewage from urban centres to waterways.

Where on earth did you think it went when you flush??????
