FF are rubbish, but I think krudler meant more like a cameo than an integral part of the film. Literally a 5 second cut away of spidey rescuing a few civilians. Now I can honestly say that would have been effing awesome.

zactly, not a full blown role they had enough people in it, just a nod to them, new york is their city after all

Yeah, they worked amazingly together in KKBB. I'm glad he's taken over. I like Favreau but he messed up the 3rd act in both Iron Man movies so far. Fresh blood!

I thought I heard there was some sort of interference in Iron Man 2 no?
And that was why Favreau stepped aside?

My understanding was that Iron Man 1 started filming with no final script, and according to Jeff Bridges, much of the dialogue was ad-libbed by the main cast; which would at least explain it's natural fizz. They apparently tried to recreate this lightning-in-a-bottle for #2 by keeping the written dialogue to a minimum, and we saw how that turned out.

I don't think the dialogue was a problem at all in IM2. The big problems for me were:
    • War Machine - He should never have been introduced.
    • Whiplash was almost immediately defeated and then just became a mechanic.
    • The big fight scene was between IM, WM and a bunch of robots that were pretty much no threat.
    • Justin Hammer was a puny annoyance more than a villain.

But the main problem, like the first IM, was that there was never a big defining moment where the character overcame a huge adversity and defeated the villain. In IM, this happened early on when Stark decided to become IM but there should have been something big at the end. It should have been a tough decision, almost something he couldn't do, to defeat/kill Stain... but it just wasn't. "Pepper, hit the button! Ah good, it's over." The second film had pretty much no emotion at all...

If you compare that against Thor, his huge moment comes at the end,
when he decides to give his own life to stop Loki from killing others on Earth
and it really defines the change in his character and gives a jump-off point for him as a hero. Then, minutes later, there is another emotional climax when,
in spite of all the evil Loki has done, Thor still tries desperately to save him from certain death
. And then, at the end, there's the more downplayed moment of
Thor asking Heimdal if he can see Jane Foster and Heimdal replying that she's searching for him
    .

    /tangent

its my favourite Marvel movie of the Avengers leadup ones by far, I loved it. I was expecting it to be garbage but was hugely surprised by how epic it was and how it handled the mythology.

And it is just perfect too that Thor was the only one I didn't see in the cinema.

And when it needed to keep a straight face with all the mentalness it did but it took the piss out of itself at other times.

Only when Thor's in the real world does "Heimdall! Open the bi-frost" sound completely insane.:P

+1 to both of those. If only the clothing and armour wasn't so obviously cheap and plastic it would have been even better but it actually really annoy me how cheap and crappy it looks!

    why?
It lets it down a bit, the cgi is good, asgard look really cool and then they're all just wearing plastic instead of cool looking armour etc. It let the whole look of it down IMO

All I'm saying is I thought the armor looked good. Not cheap. At worst, I though the Destroyer during the Main Street fight looked a bit CGI-ish.

With Modok in Cap and AIM in Thor I'm quite excited. Unless Mandarin is in this ill be disappointed.

I think it was most prominent during the fight on the main street when one of the warrior's shield is bouncing on the ground and it was this flimsy sheet metal which wouldn't stop water.

However, Thor's armour and hammer were impressive IMO.

I think he means Arnim Zola, if he's refering to the film. Or is MODOK rumoured to be in the next one?

I read somewhere Modok was in Cap. I'll see if I can find a link.

Cool. I wonder if they'd go for the standard MODOK look, or try and make him seem a bit more realistic looking. Although the floating midget seemed fine in the comics, I always got the feeling that it may end up looking hilarious in a movie.

Thats the one that folds into a case in IM2.

Apparently Iron Patriot isn't in this at all, thats actually just War machine with a Star Spangled paint job, the confusion was caused because its a stunt man in the armour.

Yeah i read that over the weekend. I cannot recall WM ever looking like this. Could be a red herring and this may be indeed IP.

Yea, seems odd to me. The thinking apparently is that the government have gotten hold of the armour, since WM is a soldier I suppose, and wanted to make him look more patriotic. Maybe they're inspired by the return of Cap?

The Iron Man films were set in LA I think. Avengers was New York, in Stark's new building. So chances are, War Machine was in LA when the Avengers sh*t went down in New York.

I definitely preferred Cheadle to Howard in the Iron Man films, but they still could have gotten someone better for the role like Idris Elba (kinda wasted as Heimdall, though he was pretty cool in Thor)

techinally Warmachine is member Ironman team not the Avengers

It didn't work in Green Lantern. I saw that in the cinema and the audience erupted in fits and giggles every time a floating blue Yoda type appeared on screen (which was actually quite often). The misery was compounded by the fact that the villain was one of them too!

That said, I'm really hoping Iron Man gets to fight something that isn't a guy in an Iron Man suit in this one...

Latest insight contains some possible spoilers:
‘Iron Man 3′ Character Details & Potential Post-Credits Scene Spoiler

As the poster boy character for Marvel Studios and the first franchise to continue the Marvel cinematic universe post-Avengers, Iron Man 3 has a lot to live up to. Its predecessor Iron Man 2 is the weakest film in the series, but with a new director, higher expectations (and a higher budget), Iron Man 3 promises to kickstart Phase 2 of the franchise in a big way.

While Marvel President Kevin Feige and writer/director Shane Black describe the film as a standalone story, not weighed down by forced story threads for the next Avengers film, that certainly doesn’t mean it won’t contain plenty of connective tissues and/or new characters and details to be used in future Marvel films.

On the second episode of The Playlist’s new podcast, writer Gabe Toro shared a pile of details regarding upcoming plans and ideas from Marvel Studios for the next several years, beginning with Iron Man 3 which launches next summer. All of what we will discuss further below can be considered: SPOILERS!!!

Iron Man 3 has already begun shooting with returning cast members Robert Downey Jr. as the titular hero, Don Cheadle as a primary character in the War Machine armor, and Gwyneth Paltrow in a smaller role as Pepper Potts. The film also introduces a wide variety of new characters:

Guy Pearce as Dr. Aldrich Killian
Ben Kinglsey as The Mandarin (rumored)
    Rebecca Hall as Maya Hansen
James Badge Dale as Eric Savin
    William Sadler as undisclosed character
    Ashley Hamilton as Firepower
Andy Lau as a scientist [The actor has since dropped out of the film, unfortunately.]

What Mr. Toro says is that Kingsley’s character is definitely a version of The Mandarin as we’ve all suspected, and that S.H.I.E.L.D. is part of the film, much like it was on the original Iron Man. Instead of Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) keeping an eye on Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) this time around, it’ll be Agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) who was introduced this year in The Avengers as the right-hand of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

This wasn’t always going to be the plan, apparently, and director Shane Black wanted Val Kilmer to play Al MacKenzie, a lesser-known S.H.I.E.L.D. agent/CIA liason from the Marvel Comics. You can see the obvious connection between Shane Black, Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer from Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. That would have been great casting, but Kilmer had scheduling conflicts.

As for William Sadler’s role in the film, he was rumored to play Sal Kennedy, a friend of Tony Stark and Maya Hansen (Rebecca Hall’s character), but according to The Playlist, he’s instead playing a General who works with James Rhodes/War Machine.

Here’s where we get to the really interesting stuff:

Before dropping out of the film, Andy Lau was cast to play a character described as a “good guy” scientist of sorts. That character will be a version of Chen Lu (Radioactive Man) from the books. In Marvel Comics, Chen Lu is a nuclear physicist for the People’s Republic of China and a villain of Iron Man who works for The Mandarin. His abilities from exposure to radiation give him green-colored skin and the abilities to control radiation in various ways. I wouldn’t expect all of that to show up in Iron Man 3, but do expect his connection with these characters to surface as well as his connection to… Ant-Man.

In the books, Henry Pym (Ant-Man) fought Radioactive Man, defeating Lu and having him deported to China, but years later, when Lu had dropped his villainous roots to work with other superheroes, he and Pym worked together during the Marvel Civil War, building a prison for super-powered people.

The character may have a significant role that has him returning in future Marvel films, but for Iron Man 3, he may just show up in a special post-credits scene where Ant-Man is finally introduced. It’s this after-credits scene that may be shot by Edgar Wright, the director who’s been attached to Ant-Man for years and who has submitted several versions of its screenplay to Marvel, a script which is touted as being funny and exciting.

This scene is likely what Wright referred to when he told Empire and Slash Film that he hopes to be shooting something for Ant-Man this year.

“So as not to jinx things, I am going to remain spectacularly vague on this. Let’s just say I hope to shoot some Ant-Man & World’s End this year.”

This scene would feature Ant-Man, possibly masked. That may depend on casting, and there’s no word on that front. Seeing how Joss Whedon directed the post-credits button on Thor, which served as a lead-in to The Avengers, it makes sense to see Marvel doing the same with Edgar Wright on Iron Man 3 - and what better way to market a new, lesser-known character than with their biggest solo character franchise? This also lends credence to the idea that Ant-Man will join Captain America 2 as one of the 2014 Marvel Studios releases.

    Let the speculation continue!

Iron Man 3 is currently shooting and is scheduled to hit theaters on May 3, 2013. Thor 2 comes later that fall and Captain America 2 the following spring.

That has got me very excited at the possibility of getting to see
    Edgar Wright's Antman
indeed! Shame there's no Val kilmer though.
