Me and my friends saw this the other day, expecting good things as it has received good reviews all around and, let's face it, the ads make it look pretty decent!
We had a completely different opinion when we were leaving the cinema! How anyone could have liked this movie is beyond me, and even now reading online reviews (imdb, rottentomatoes etc.) my head is wrecked! The first 30/40 minutes of the movie drags out and gives you the "Nothings happened yet, but i'm gonna stick around because something seems like it's going to happen soon" feeling! Then an hour went past and the plot of the movie was still on the same level as it was in the beginning! The main thing that ran through my head and kept my attention throughout the first half of the movie was me thinking to myself "Wow, Timothy Olyphant looks really like Billy Bob Thorton! I wonder if they're related?" *Turns out they aren't, but he looks astonishingly like him with his newly found beard face* As for gore/horror movie experience, it's an extreme letdown! There's no tension in any parts of the movie, and whenever something slightly jumpy happens it's because one of the three main characters just happens to scare the balls of another by jumping out of nowhere for no apparent reason e.g. Spoiler: In one of the last scenes in the diner when Radha Mitchell is trying to hide from some of the crazies, and she runs into a tiny closed off single entrance room packed with dead bodies and is frightened by Timothy Olyphant, who for no explained reason has decided to apparently chill out in a tiny room full of dead bodies, after he jumps up behind her and face grabs her to keep her quiet! I still continue to wonder how this movie has gotten a 7/8 out of 10 rating on nearly almost every review i've seen so far! The best part of the whole thing was the fact that we only got charged teen prices for the tickets due to a sound till girl! If I was a complete a$£hole i'd give this movie a 0/10, but i'm not, so i'll give it a 2.5/10 for the few unintentional laughs it gave in some scenes! May god have mercy on this movie! -P |

I couldn't disagree more with the above review.
Even though I dislike horror movies normally, I actually enjoyed the Crazies. The acting was good, the effects were good, and the tension was relatively sustained. There were plenty of 'jumping' moments, and there was a real sense of danger in regard to the main characters. 8/10 from me. |

I kinda of fall in between the two reviews there, Didn't think it was that bad or that great. My friends like it a lot more then me. The leading man was very good and has screen power. It's just you kinda have seen it before bit like 28 days later, Hill have eyes(remake), dawn of the dead(remake) etc and its a remake itself.
Plus the zombies(are they zombies?) at times there stupid then smart. Sometimes slow then fast. They can talk sometimes they cant etc. By not nailing it down it bugged me for some reason but its very dark which I think suits this type of film. 6/7 out of ten. Wait for the DVD. |

I'm geting a bit fed up with having to delete off topic posts now. I'm not even going to bother warning people now. If anyone ends up permanently banned they have no one to blame but themselves.
Also, 'back seat moderating' is equally off topic and very much frowned upon. It will not be tolerated. If anyone has a problem with another persons post they should click the report post button (little exclamation point thing inside a white triangle with a red rim) instead of dragging proceedings more off topic. edit: and for the love of Zod if you want to write a review do more than one freaking line! A bit of effort goes a long way to not having your posts deleted. Last edited by Galvasean; 18-03-2010 at 14:29. |
