We have 4 games going at the other place right now. If we had twice as many games going, I don;t think it would be a problem.

The more the merrier.

I bought this game on Steam there this weekend, went to play it today and am having awful trouble with the resolution. My PC is hooked up to a TV, the resolution of which is 1280x720 I think, and the game just refuses to let me play in this resolution. The result is bits are cut off the sides or the bottom of the screen, making it virtually unplayable. Has anyone else had this issue or know of a fix for it?

You could try going into \documents\mygames\Civ 5 and editing the graphicsettingdx9.ini file (or the dx11 if you use that).

Find these lines and change them to

WindowResX = 1280

WindowResY = 720

Sometimes, games change these settings back, so if that happens right click properties on the file and tick read only.

Hope that works.

Tried that just now, it puts the game into 1280x768.

I guess 720 is not supported or something.

Windowed mode it is

Managed to get it sorted by messing around with the settings on the TV rather than the game.

Thanks for the help.

Does anybody else find this game a bit dumbed down compared to previous versions of Civ?

I wouldn't necessarily say "dumbed down". I know it does have less features than previous Civ titles, especially if you compare it to Civ 4 BtS, but for the type and playstyle of 5, it's good enough.

Yes, it could have a few other features like foreign trade, better diplomacy and other things, but it works.

Got CIV5 ont he sale there the other week. Just started a game on Saturday, loved it ! ...was getting used to it, destroying all the other cities and having a great time. Was up till 6am...as this stage I nearly had the world conquered, seen "city state" Sydney...and laughed..as it was a tiny Island..so decided to take a screenshot...pressed F12 (Steam screenshot) and it quickloaded a game from the very start

Sunday day, started a new game with my friend, Huge map, 12-16 Civs or whatever it is, we are about 14 hours in, 300+ turns , and it's amazing. I can't wait for a few days off to just play. Even though I have Fifa12, BF3 Beta, RAGE out soon etc...this is all that's on my mind

There are autosaves every so often so your game may still be there.

Annoyingly those quicksave/quickload shortcuts have only been in quite recently. Before that F12 used to be the shortcut to switch between normal and strategic view on the map. And there's no way to change them, so you're forced to changing your screenshot key every time.

This is also why I have the game set to autosave every 3 turns!
