The thing about the old general for sale was that it was just too big to monitor effectively. That and the fact that things were being put in there that had specific categories.

Notification of new ads in specific chosen categories. For example users could sign up to receive an email when a new ad was posted in sections they where interested in like a new Blu-Ray disc for sale in the "For Sale » DVD, CD & Movies » Blu-ray" section.

At the very bottom left of the page in every category, there's a 'subscribe to category' link.
That does exactly what you just asked for

Another suggestion from myself.

The wanted sections seem to be out in limbo on their own.

They really should be tied in under the main headings - so each main section shas its 'for sale' sub headings, and the 'Wanted' section.

i.e. 'Computers'

When you select 'Computers' you are brought to the Computers section, with the sub-heads listed.

The 'Computers Wanted' section should be on that page, as a subsection.

This should be done for all sections on Adverts where there are 'Wanted' sections.

Allow sellers to revert to previous asking price if they lowered it for a potential buyer who backed or flaked out and/or punish bidders for making spurious bids.

Hey guys, what about a status note box for adverts where members could just write a one liner to say when they expect to be back online, so that people interested in their adverts know when to expect replies... I notice people get frustrated very quick when you don't reply - some people spend days on end on pcs whereas many like me only check in every few days or once a week... think it would be a nice feature that would add to the general nice vibe.
for e.g. The_Saint... 'I'll be back online on Sunday 28th March, replies then'
another e.g. The_Saint... 'gone fishing for the weekend, replies on Monday'
... ok I'll stop but it lets people know you know
