good music-inputting program for PC?

hi all

i'm looking for a good (and free, preferably) music-inputting program. At school I used goldwave or something, and ejay i think. But they're not great, are they?
Can anyone recommend one that's easy enough to use? sorry I can't be more specific about my requirements.

thanks
