What part of the country are you in and does it need to be a big saloon or estate car? I've done a search giving the info provided and guessing the rest.

Here
. My choices of those would be either a Audi A4 2.5 tdi v6 avant 6speed or a Peugeot 406 HDI.

On such a low budget you will find it hard to get a clean tidy car that hasn't had the crap driven out of it.

Saying that there maybe always exceptions:

Total cliché in this forum for threads like this at this stage but a 99 or 00 Octavia is a very practical car and will return over 50 mpg no bother at all to it!

Ford Focus always does it for me, even the rough ones will get you around.
Try
http://www.carzone.ie/
because you can set what make, model, fuel type and price you want.
There seem to be a few decent Focuseseses, but you'll be better of spending between 2.5 and 3k.
Anything under 2k is going to be rough and you better be handy with a spanner or have a mate that with a Garage.
