BOI or EBS

Hi has anyone got a mortgage from either lately? iv applied to BOI for one and myself and my girlfriend have a car loan each adding to 19000 between us,anyway they came back and said they will only give it to us if we pay off the two loans with our savings which we have a bit between us. i have an appointment wit EBS saturday but was woundering does anyone know if ebs are as strict or did ye get approved with car loans and low savings???

I cant say what the EBS are like but I think banks would prefer you to debt free. It looks better when they send it for approval to the underwriter.
