Do you have to commit to a whole year? Do they offer shorter contracts at all?

Yes you have to commit for a full year.

If you leave 6 months into your contract you have to repay the airfare back to the school. You will also get no return flight or the bonus at the end of th contract.

Hope this helps!!

Guys, not been smart but I've been in Korea for a while so I'll just give my take on the above.

I'm not trying to put anyone off it because I think its a great experience out here, I'll just try to clarify a few things.

Usually 7-8 hours in the school, less actually working.

More then the average office worker, if you count the free accommodation.

Rent free yes. Heating, electricity is on you. Usually very little but Summer can be tough on the olde electricity for the air conditioner and winter can be touch on the gas bill. Nothing seriously bad though.

Gyeonngi Do is a province, (Do means province).

Its like saying your address is Wexford town, Leinster, Dublin City.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uijeongbu

Uijeongbu is about 40 minutes from the centre of Seoul but don't let that put you off. The 'centre' here is quite subjective. I live 50 minutes from the centre of Seoul but its all one giant metropolitan area anyways.

Wherever you go your 40 minutes from the centre, Uijeongbu's a good place.

What time do you have to be in the school.

You mean 50% is included ?

Good.

All 4 Korean national holidays ? Again, I'm not trying to put anyone off, but when I was coming here the first time I was thinking Irish bank holiday etc

The Korean national holidays depend on the lunar calendar, not the solar one. So this year for example I think we had 4 national holidays, next will be more I think. i.e > Holiday falls on a Saturday then tough luck.

All in all I recommend coming here, great experience.

You said it's open to BA holders, what about those with an LL.B, as in a law degree?

Cheers.

No just as long as you have any form of Degree you are a candidate to be a teacher over here in Korea. Experience with children isnt even required although it would be preferred. There is no requirement for the TEFL course either.

Like I said before just send me a copy of your CV if you are interested in the job and I will organise a telephone interview for you!!

I have no idea how much 2.2 million won buys in Korea.

Is it enough to live on or would you be basically living like a student again?

Also, are you breaking your contract? It this why you are trying to find a replacement?

Could you post a proper job spec?

2.2 million won is about 1200 euro!! The cost o fliving is nothing over here and I have managed to save half of that every month and had a great time no skimping on the fun at all!!

I am not breaking my contract, I really liked the school so I am just helping them out as the whole recruitment agency thing over here is a con job and it costs a lot of money. My contract ends in January.

There is nothing more that I can say about the job that i havent already said in the original post, sorry guys!!

Do the schools stay open all summer? Would you get time off at Christmas? What is covered in the medical insurance? What is the exact location (another posted didn't seem impressed with what you wrote!)?

No offence intended towards Annesa here, but....

for anyone thinking of going over, don't just jump at the first offer you see (like this one). There is a wealth of teaching jobs over there. They constantly need English speakers to teach. So check out other offers to figure out a basis of comparison. You might prefer to live elsewhere, teach in a public school (the private ones can often be a bit dodgy).

For more info read up on http://eslcafe.com/. It is a real popular site for teaching jobs over there. There is an abundance of information available on it. Do thorough research and know what you are signing up for.

Fair question. You don't need to speak the native language. But you need patiences and to be creative and being animated helps too. Some teachers would tell you it's better never to use the student's native language. Instead you create an English only environment. I was thought a foreign language this way whilst living abroad. And it is very effective.

i don't mean to sound critical, but i'm just interested to know whether the students actually learn anything. You can tell someone what the word for 'Window' is by pointing at the Window and saying the word, but how do you give them feedback, what if they want to ask (in Korean) what a corresponding word is in English ? Do you just stand up in front of the class and say English words all day with no explanations? if that's the teaching method then the students might as well sit at home and watch the BBC.
