UK 2nd Hand Car Costs from 01/01/2010

With VAT in UK going back to 17 1/2% from 1st Jan'10, will this effect second hand car prices? I'm assuming that VAT was applied on registration so subsequent sales are not effected. Is this correct? What is the effect on a garage owed demo?

Second car prices in the UK have actually being increasing in the last 6 to 8 months due to the lack of supply of decent second hand cars.

However the UK Government have recently reintroduced a scrapage scheme which so far has seen new cars sales increase so it maybe a case of swings and roundabouts. I would imagine a VAT increase would have some sort of impact on new cars sales which may have a knockon effect on used car values. Who knows for sure at this though?
