Priest (81) told to face being extradited on rape charges
Is it me or do other people find it a bit disquieting that an 81 year old man can be put in jail over an alleged rape that took place 40 years ago. Surely this case cannot either be proved or disproved at this stage.
I wonder does the fact that the guy was a priest make a difference. For an example my grandfather is a retired teacher I wonder can somone now come up and make a similar allegation about him and have him named publicly The man making the claim is now 55 years of age and claims he was 15 when this happened. While I do not question his right to make a claim I do wonder how can it be proved and I wonder what evidence the state has to seek an extradition warrant . I have copied this from the Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/...258661997.html |

why does it make you sick that a potential rapist may be brought to justice? i suppose roman polanski should be left to it then?

If he is guilty, I don't really think the age would matter. Actually, set him in a room with a horny young rapist, and maybe he'll have an idea on how he made the 15 year old lad feel.

I think Guys you are missing the point of the Argument .What I question is how can it be proved and what type of judicial system do we have.
Is it one run on the emotions of the people of the day or is it run on a fair basis.looking at the answers above I think we run it on popular emotions . which brings to mind mob rule etc |

After the trial he will be found guilty or not, and if he's guilty he deserves to be punished if he's innocent he can fly back off to where ever he wants. I don't see the problem. If the prosecution has no evidence he'll walk, fair and square. Age shouldn't matter in a case like this. |

And the fact he has been named does that matter ? Last edited by jerry2623; 12-11-2009 at 10:03. |

That is a very unfair. If he is innocent it would be very hard to restore a reputation after being named a sex offender. I completely agree on that one.
