Laptop for Photographer

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction...

Budget: up to €1000

Intended use: internet, photo storage, photo editing (Photoshop) and nothing else really

Mobility: not that important

Warranty: yes

I need a laptop solely for my work (i have one for personal use but don't want to cram it with work stuff). I will mostly be editing photos with Photoshop and using the internet. The graphics would need to be excellent and it would have to have fair bit of hard drive so I don't have to worry about storing photos.

Is there anywhere you can get top quality, high-spec refurbished/second hand laptops with warranty?

Any advice would be appreciated!

Mike

Your better off getting a new laptop, €1000 will get you an amazing laptop for what you need brand new.

http://www.dabs.ie/products/asus-f70...80000-46400000

Here is a nice laptop, huge screen with a high resolution, 4GB memory, qualifies for windows 7, 500GB HDD, P8600 procesor packs a punch.
The only minor letback is a 9300M GPU which to be frank sucks for gaming, I don't really know about photoshop(Well I do but I don't use it to the point I need GPU acceleration). Apparently they work quite decently for photoshop so long as you aren't doing absolutely massive jobs in RAW format over 500MB etc...

TBH that machine isn't that good for the price

For a price of
€973.99
You could get the Dell Studio 17 with this spec
Quote:
Components
Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P7450 (2.13GHz, 1066MHz, 3MB)
Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit, English
Microsoft® Works 9.0 / English - (Does not include Microsoft® Word)
1 year of coverage included with your PC
No Security/Anti-Virus Protection - English
No Accidental Damage Support
17.3” High Definition+ (1600x900) LED with TL
4096MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [2x2048]
1TB (7.200rpm) Serial ATA Dual Hard Drive (2x 500GB)
512MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570
Fixed Internal DVD+/-RW Slot Load Drive including Software
Primary 6-cell 56 WHr Lithium Ion battery
Dell Wireless 1397 Mini Card (802.11 b/g)
2.0 Mega pixel Integrated Web Camera
Internal UK/Irish Qwerty Keyboard
Black chainlink
It's this base system with the process upgraded to the P7450 and HD's upgraded to 1tb (2x500gb) 7200rpm!

I've highlighted a few things in Bold which you should look at,The processor is the only weaker thing,The Ram is DDR3 1333mhz compared to DDR2 800mhz(?),The hardisks are 2x500gb 7200 rpm compared to 1x500gb 5400rpm..The graphics are pretty much the same I'm assume..

I'd only get a Dell if you know how to fix a computer (hard and software). I could earn a living from running around my various family members fixing their Dell computers.

Would second a Macbook Pro.

Aperture and iPhoto are really intuitive and exclusive to mac.

MacBook Pro 13inch 2.26GHz/2GB/160GB/GeForce 9400M/SD
http://www.amazon.co.uk/MacBook-13in...HX378MT897SSDF
856.72 GBP = 956.481 EUR

Maybe getting some feedback from boards.ie Photographers might prove to be more beneficial to the OP.

Only photo work I have done is for websites, etc (IT Student).

Overall, with that budget you will get a great system.

hmm if amazon ship that to ireland (don't know if they've lifted their ban on electronics to ireland due to the WEEE) but if they do then that's a nice price.

i'm a hobby photographer and use a 2006 macbook (the black ones) i have 2 gigs of ram in it and a 500gig hard drive (upgrades i done myself) and it's great for photoshop, lightroom etc.

aperture isn't the best program when compared to lightroom, found it way too confusing. and iphoto whilst it's good for a casual user the cataloguing part of lightroom is far superior.
