Windows 7 on a netbook?
Is it possible to install Windows 7 on a netbook? How would it run and would it be better to upgrade to 2gb ram? Thinking of buying a netbook and I got windows 7 free from MSDN from college so I may aswell use it if I can

I'm running Windows 7 ultimate on a netbook. I've got 2Gb of RAM but it runs perfectly on it.

Why? Because Ubuntu is also free and runs fine on less than half the specs required by Windows. Ubuntu will run on:

I need 4 laptops for work, I was holding off for Win 7 and in my naivety I thought it would only be a matter of connecting to Elara for example and order 4 * N140 with win 7. How long will it take before they will ship with win 7. I dont want the hassle of paying for extra win 7 upgrade licenses.
They are for people who are on the move all the time and I wanted some of the enhancements of 7 like bitlocker and maybe direct connect (vpn) Last edited by ROS123; 21-10-2009 at 17:10. Reason: extra info |

Alanstrainor, I was not trying to take the thread off topic. I was just making a suggestion to the OP. I don't know why people are getting freaked out about that. I have no desire to discuss Linux here. All I was doing was trying to help.
I know the OP asked if it was possible to install Windows 7 on a netbook, but I also read "Thinking of buying a netbook". Since netbooks are primarily used for Internet, e-mail, and maybe some office applications, I thought it might be worth mentioning an alternative that uses less resources. A simple response might have been "Thanks, can you give me more details" or "thanks, but I'm not interested in Ubuntu or Linux", in which case I would have left it at that. But instead others chime in and pretty much tell me to keep my opinions to myself. What's with that? |

If you have a problem with my moderating you can take it to the Helpdesk Forum, or discuss over PM. Your first post was "just putting it out there" but your last two posts only serve to drag this thread off topic. This is the last time i'll ask you to stay on-topic.
