PSP or PSP go?

I need your help, my son is currently looking to get a PSP for Christmas. But from looking in the shops the games for the PSP are starting to dissappear from the shelves. Is it actually on the way out. Will it be hard to get games in 6-8 months time. Will this be a waste of money buying the old PSP or would we better getting him the PSP go. I think he is a little too young for the PSPgo as he is only 8.

The only other option is to buy him a PS3 but since he has almost 30 games for his PS2 this seems another waste. Most of the games are new games he has for the PS2 that he has bought himself.

with the release of the PSP GO, it looks like sony are pushing to get customers to buy their games online and download them directly to the console. This is the only way you can buy games for the PSP GO. I'd recommend the regular PSP, There is always a good chance of getting the games in the store, not to mention second hand games. Also you can pick up umd movies cheap enough. Also many website do PSP games for good prices play.co.uk are pretty good. Has your son thought about getting a DS? You wont have any problems with games or anything for that anytime soon

He already has a DS, seems the trend at school is the PSP. Doesn't really plat too much with his DS now. Seems a shame spending almost €250 on the PSPgo when PS3 are only €299.

I think you're right him being too young for the PSP Go, you have to download all your games from the PlayStation Store, so you need to use the wifi on the PSP, a PS3 or a PC to download them. To buy the games you have to buy credit in a store or use a credit card. The only reason I would recommend using the PlayStation Store over normal shops is that any games you buy can be used on up to 5 PSPs, so if you have any other kids with PSPs it would mean only having to buy one copy of each game. Not sure if this affects you though.

There are few sales on the PlayStation Store, versus Game or GameStop which are bound to have lots of sales on PSP discs come the January sales. So getting the normal PSP will probably work out cheaper in the long run. The PSP and the PSPgo play all the exact same games as well too so it's not he'll be missing out having the slightly older PSP.

The PSP has a smaller section in shops because people tend not to buy the games, they pirate them. The PSP sections are actually bigger now then they were a year ago and there are lots of new games coming out so don't worry, it's not dying off yet. The PS2 however is on it's last legs now, they won't be as many games out for it after this Christmas I think. All the new games are PS3/Xbox 360/PSP/Wii and DS. I only mention that in case you think the PS3 or something else might be the better option in the end.

Get the regular PSP maybe a good slim one. Have a look on adverts.ie they always have loads on there. He will prob grow tired of it as good as the PSP is its no match to sitting in front of a TV. at least that way if you only paid 120ish for one it wont be too bad.

Old school PSP is cheaper and has more features and you can also pick up second hand games and sell your old games. It's a pretty obvious choice.

For a younger person, I'd say the standard PSP is the best option. They will be swapping games etc with each other, and with a PSP Go, this isn't possible. I have a PSP Go and I love it, as I can have tons of stuff on it (16gig internal memory with 8gig M2 card) and all I need to carry with me is a charger, but for someone with lots of friends who have PSPs (which more than likely aren't PSP Goes), a Slim and Lite is the best option.

To be pretty honest, a PS3 is a much better purchase.

If he really wants a handheld definitley go for a regular PSP, the PSP Go offers nothing that revolutionary and has a smaller screen etc.


But for €299 you cannot go wrong with a PS3, the PS2 is dying slowly, it will be nearly 10 years come 2010, it has survived the entire decade(An amazing feat btw).

ps3 also a blu ray player so that could be good for you

his ps2 is probable a slim so it's the size of a dvd case there's no reason to sell it as you won't get anything for it now so keep it and get a ps3

finally sony patented a thing to use the cell to emulate fully ps2 game on the ps3

the ps2 still sell a bit and has been at just under 100 for a while if sony decides to it's not hard for them to get ps2 game to run on a ps3
