Getting Sky+ functions without a Sky+ Sub!!

I have a Sky HD box in my room, with no Sub so I'm just getting the FTA channels. But I put my old Sky Blue card into the box and I am able to record, pause and rewind TV. I can only do it with the FTA channels (But for some reason I cant do it with C4, E4 or More 4). Is this normal, is anyone else able to do it? Is there any way I can get the C4 channes to work?

Yes it is normal.

It seems that the Sky+ functionality is switched off by Sky sending out a "Kill" signal.
The "Kill" signal is only sent out for a few months after your subscription ends.

So if you cancel Sky
take your card out the day before before your subscription ends
wait a few months
put the card back in and the Sky+ recording facility will work for Free to Air channels.

However now that sky are replacing the blue cards with the new white cards expect all the blue cards to stop working by the end of the year.

The white cards may not work in the same way, I have heard no reports yet.

I think the blue cards are due to be finished completely by mid to late November

Open to correction though!
