Toyota Celica 1.8 T SPORT

Thinking of buying one of these and was wondering if anybody owns one or knows something on them i.e. any trouble, well worth the money.

Its an 02 190bhp model and it has 117k miles on the clock. Priced for 6500.

Good deal or not?

Any comments appreciated!

I have a 2003 Celica T-sport, its the same as the one your looking at except it is the facelift version. Great fun car to drive with excellent handling.

I'm guessing if you're looking at it you know all about the hight reving engine and lift. One thing to look out for is that pre 2003 models used a different lift bolt(weaker) than the 2003 -> 2006 models. It can break.

I think the T-Sport only came out in 2003 are you sure its not the C190 version?

Make sure it goes into Lift, you need to wait until the engines heats up or it wont go in so take it for a test drive and when it has warmed up floor it

In a pre-03 Celica 190 the lift bolts should be changed regardless as Gigabyte said they are weaker and were replaced by better ones in the facelift model which shouldn't need replacing again. Its an easy enough job to do, look here for multiple guides on how to do it.

Just found it in wiki, here's a link for you

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_ZZ_engine

Quote:
The engine will easily run at speeds of around 4,000 rpm for extended periods of time and is designed to periodically run at the 8,400 RPM redline without issue. For the first few years of production, the engines were notorious for failing "lift bolts". This did not damage the engine, but would hamper performance as the high output cam profile was unable to properly engage. Toyota fixed the problem in late 2002 with a redesigned bolt that was installed on later engines. Earlier engines with the problematic bolts can be fixed via a Toyota-issued TSB simply requiring the new bolt to be installed in place of the old one."

Done some reading....turns out out the model he selling ISNT a t-sport.

Only has a vvti-190 badge, has a sun roof, black leather interior and no side skirts. So its only the 190 version.

bye bye Lift

The T Sport was a trim that was originally sold in the UK and maybe Ireland. It came with the VVTi-L 190bhp engine.

Jap imports wore the VVTi-L 190 badge and used the same engine afaik.
