Should we pay charges for water?

Green Water Charges

Just seen this this morning.

while i do agree to some extent i believe that water is a vital service and one that should not be charged for. excessive usage should incur some fine maybe but consistent charging is not a good idea. beside when you bring in a charge for this it will only go up.

It's not the publics water use that's the problem-it's our leaky antiquated pipes imo that are wasting most of the water in this country

With the amount of rain in this country we do not have a water shortage, so this charge is not needed imo.

Water is a basic human need, people cant live without drinking it in one form or another, as such I feel people should be entitled to it without charge.

Its just another tax That IMO cannot be justified.

Rather then deal with out of control public expenditure this government see's the electorate as collective cash cows waiting to be milked.

What next a credit card slot on a defibrillator?

I think it's a bit of a joke, the boil notice we've had on our water for over a year still hasn't been lifted. Not that there's anything wrong with it though *mutated flinch*

if they do charge for it, wont they open themselves up to all sorts of claims for hard water damage (or installation of systems to prevent such damage) which is a particularly bad in my locality?

May I respectfully point out that everyone in the countryside pays for water every year, year in, year out. So, either do not introduce rates and subsidise rural water schemes or introduce rates for urban dwellers - either way, can we have a level of equity please?

We already pay for our water through taxes, it's not like it magically appears in our taps.

Yes we should. But we should not be paying on the quoted "reduce waste" justification while the system leaks 30-40% of carriage (IIRC). Nor should we be charged directly for the metres, as is likely to happen

They would never get mine. They are a big part of the reason this country is in the toilet.

Only gave them the vote because they said they`d never go into government with FF

Id say they`lll find it hard to get the water charges in place though.I didnt pay them the last time and I wont be paying them this time.

Id happily pay extra charge for water, provided it was clean, clear of cystosporidium and lead.
