Graduation ceremony

Would search for this but the search function is apparently broken...

Graduation ceremony (for college) is coming up in a few weeks, have no idea how these things work, but looking for advice on what to wear. I'm guessing you go and get your degree and take pictures, then go for a meal with parents etc, then go out with your friends? So you'd need to wear something formal enough but conservative i suppose, and something that would do for the meal and going out.... Any ideas? I don't normally wear dresses or get really dressed up, so quite stuck for ideas...

That's really nice but i'm just not sure it's right for the ceremony..?? Is it? I think it'd be a bit over dressy for it. It's a small college, and i don't know...

I'm looking for a dress for my graduation too at the end of November, and I'm really not sure what to get.

What I'm thinking is, at the ceremony itself and for the photos, the dress is going to be covered up by the gown thingy. So I want to get fabulous shoes, as that's pretty much all that will be seen, but for the dress I'm hoping to get something not to dressy or expensive ... just a normal going-out dress that I can wear again over Christmas etc.

But I really don't know is that appropriate, am I supposed to get something more formal?

To my graduation I wore a lovely black short skirt/sleeveless gold dressy top thingy over a white shirt/black peep toe high heels..looked very classy If I do say so myself.
Shirt was very nice inside the gown..felt looking at others who wore dresses it was either very bare inside it or it didn't go with the colour trim of the gown. I also won't be looking back in my grad photos going 'I cant believe I wore that dress/top/ or whatever. But that was my own personal preference..Knew what kinda looked I wanted.

So anyway, after my meal I changed into a dress I bought in warehouse as I felt my other outfit was a bit conservative to go out clubbing in!

Enjoy day..great catching up with everyone!

I'm graduating in November aswell and from what I know, it is a dressy event. Any of the graduations I've seen have been women in classy dresses and the guys in ties and shoes. The dress posted above is beautiful and I'd consider something similar myself methinks.

As far as I was aware the graduation was a dressy event so this thread's made me a lil nervous

Hahaha keep posting and give me ideas

I wore a black satin knee lenght ballgown type thing (vague sorry) The material/colour made it quite formal, but it's got cute bows on the chest/strap and the lenght made it practical on the dancefloor that night. Maybe ask around if someone's older sister graduated from there and what they wore?
