Judo gi for less than €100??

Hi there,

I recently returned back to judo after a child-rearing sabbatical, so the nappies are put away (just about) and something like life is resuming (just about)....

Looking to replace my current sack for a gi that will guarantee invincibility, alright then - I'll settle for something decent that I can get battered in.

I have scoured the net for 2nd hand gis (I'm not proud), but little available – saw one Mizuno Yawara on eBay for $50, but missed that boat.

Anyone know what’s the best quality gi I can get my hands on for a max of €100 all in (that’s including VAT, postage, packing, anointment by sacred oils etc.)

Would be great to hear back, thanks very much.
Collly.

HI Colly, welcome to the forum and welcome back to Judo.

You'll get a really good Gi for that kind of money.

You could contact Alan Martin @ 0862703220.

My recommendation from Alan would be to go for either a Danrho or a Fighting Films Gi - my personal favourite is the Fighting Films.

But you'll get a Danrho cheaper.

Thanks Makikomi,

I gave Alan a quick text and he called back within a couple of hours, very helpful and genuinely nice bloke. Due to head out this weekend to see if he has something for me!

Really appreciate your advice, is he generally +/- the price range compared to online shops? I did look at both Danrho and Fighting Film sites; looks like mid-range suit plus shipping comes in at about €150-160. Alan said I would be looking at 120-130 for something similar from his shop. So - depending on his stock - seems like he is at least saving me shipping costs, not to mention the peace of mind of actually trying s/thing on first.

Thanks again for your reply, you seem to be somewhat encyclopedic on all things martial about here.

Greatly appreciated.
Col.

Anyone know a decent place to get some Muay Thai pads? Preferably a shop in Cork. I see plenty online, but I need to check them out before parting with my cash.

Just looking for some recommendations on a BJJ gi.

Looking to get a good quality one and have been told the newest Tatami one (estilio 3.0 I think?) is quite a good bet. Anyone with one of these?

Other brands that seem promising are Fushida, Koral, and Gameness.

Any recommendations?

edit: actually just spotted This seems good value. Anyone know what's the quality like?

Hey Danlen,

Check out the BJJ gi reviews by this guy, they are pretty comprehensive;

http://meerkat69.blogspot.com/2011/11/gi-review-terere-signature-gi-by-tatami.html

Have to say having read of his glowing review (customer service/quality) I would love to get a custom Fushida gi...bit costly mind you.

I do judo myself, so the gi cut is a bit different. But for what it’s worth Fighting Films, Danrho and Essimo (as worn by Roger Gracie) are top notch. They won’t let you down on the mats!

Let us know how you get on!

Speedballs

Looking for a couple of speedballs. A floor to ceiling and a static. I had York before and they didn't last too long. Any decent brands/online store to buy from...

About 3 weeks ago I bought a bunch if gear from
http://www.martialartshop.co.uk

Prices are decent, shipping was about 30 euro for large quantity of gear.
correspondence via email was fast.

don't change the price to euro's on the site as it isn't accurate, better of working out the total cost of your items then convert from sterling to euro.

Sparring Boot

Blitz Professional Leather Sparring Boot.
http://www.martialartshop.co.uk/prod...etCurrencyId=1
Price £20.99

Bought these as a cheaper alternative to top ten, I compared these to my friends top ten, not much differences in design really, they have had a good hammering over the last few 3weeks, seem to be well made, but time will tell.

I think CRU in Middle Abbey Street are currently stocking MMA sparring gloves.

Have you asked your coach about gloves?.
