U.TV 7.6 ... As with most evenings it has reduced to a crawl and crappy pings as well.

Something is really fupped up with the internet in this country.

Im on 7mb and had around 4 touching 5mb as my highest speed all weekend in the Blanchardstown area.

Rang eircom Monday, was told the cabra exchange had problems but he knew nothing of problems with the Blanch one.
Said hes getting an engineer to look @ it and if it doesn't improve to ring back in 5 days.

Im sick of it now, i looked just now and im below the 2mb mark. Its stupid to have such low speeds and still be charged for speeds you not getting. Id love to see how long it would be this slow if you paid for the actual speeds you get/got.

Only for eircoms lax approach to the caps id be moving broadband provider.

At least with Eircom they can send engineers out to exchanges. The other bitstream resellers depend on Eircom to do this. Unfortunately Eircom have difficultly seeing problems when they belong to other ISPs...

Is this only at certain times ?? Could be contention as I've noticed my 3MB UTV getting slower in the evenings.

That is what UTV told me Eircom said to them.

400-500ms is not contention that is crap. They have oversubscription in certain places and this is causing bottlenecks.

If you have these problems PLEASE report them and don't roll over. A ping of 400-500 is WORSE than dial-up. You should not be paying big bucks for a broadband connection that performs worse than dialup.

Phone up log an official complaint, contact comreg with the complaint ID. Eircom will not bother their ass doing anything to improve the situation unless people are complaining. Unfortunately I get the feeling from many that "It's all we can expect living in Ireland." B*llsh*t.

Now Comreg has absolutely no power to dictate what kind of service any broadband provider should have. However they can recommend that your service provider waive any cancellation fees for early breaking of a contract. Losing customers will force the likes of UTV and Vodafone or whatever bitstream reseller to take a harder line with Eircom. At the end of the day Eircom is providing a BB service which should match minimum service levels. It is these resellers that should be dictating in the terms of contract what the terms are.

Eircom have a really good position. The only national provider of broadband wholesale. No regulatory pressure to provide any guaranteed level of service. Since no others are offering this service all resellers are tied into it.

It's really sad.
