RIP. Bad stretch of road. The corner of Westmoreland Street, down to Guinness, I think, has claimed 20 or more bike related deaths in the last decade. It might not seem like a lot, but for one stretch of road..

If this figure is remotely correct the RSA, the Gardai and DCC should take an urgent look at the causes of these accidents and act immediately. From memory most of these fatalities occur on the South Quays, anyone any suggestions as to why?

The combination of rent-a-bikes and dublins traffic meant this was always only a matter of time.

I passed the scene this morning and it was a very very big truck.

Quite sad. Am I the only person that refuses to cycle on the quays? I was always under the impression that they were the two most dangerous roads in the city for a cyclist.

Sorry - should have been more specific, it was a DublinBikes bike that the rider was on.

Generally higher speeds, and more high-speed lane changing. Even in a car it tends to feel like a bit of a scramble, not sure why. The rare times I've done it on a bike I go in-lane at the same pace as the cars as this feels safer.

If I was going slowly I'd avoid.

North Quays are (by contrast) very pleasant to use.

Cycling across town this morning it was very apparent that something was wrong- I hoped it wouldn't be this, but feared I was hoping against hope.

Yeh I don't mind the North quays at all...nice bus lane running most of the length of it....South Quays I cycled once and said never again, now I stick to Thomas Street and the come down the Luas tracks on Watling Street.
