Basically, Hiney wont get an All Star but he's well worth the nomination.

Unfortunately, Treacy is now out of the running for Young Hurler of the Year. The shortlist is down to 3 with Noel McGrath, Padraig Maher and Joe Canning. Realistically it's between the 2 Tipp lads and I'd say Noel McGrath will just edge it, despite not having a particularly good final.
That said great to see Treacy even in the reckoning. Shows the progress being made in Dublin hurling. A terrific prospect. The more I see of him the more impressed I am.

McGill: Revitalised 'Jackies' ready to set record straight

Quote:
Dublin still have a chance of bagging a football All-Ireland this year but the man urging locals to come out and 'Back the Jackies' in next Sunday's TG4 All-Ireland senior ladies final hails all the way from Donegal.

Gerry McGill (30) was a goalkeeper with his native county for three years, played Sigerson Cup for UCD for seven and played for Carlow for two seasons -- where he still plays his club football with Eire Og.

And if teaching in Larkin College, in the quintessential inner-city area of Sean McDermott Street, for the last 10 years hadn't already made him an honorary Dub, then leading their women's footballers back to the All-Ireland final certainly should.

It's the Jackies' first decider since their agonising final losses of the 2003 and 2004 championships and they retain 10 of the '04 team who lost to Galway.

Just like their male counterparts, Dublin suffered a heavy All-Ireland quarter-final defeat to Tyrone last year but they've bounced back admirably.

Yet unlike Pat Gilroy's men, Croke Park is so new to many of them that they were allowed into HQ on Monday night for a quick recce of the sacred ground to help them get their bearings.

Facing them are the mighty Rebelettes chasing a fifth All-Ireland title in succession.

Cork haven't actually lost a final since they made the senior breakthrough in 2005 and are also looking for their fourth league/championship double.

The sides have already met twice this year during the National League with one win apiece so this is a big rematch, especially as Cork took Dublin's previously unbeaten scalp in the league semi-final, beating them by a resounding 4-11 to 0-8 margin.

"Cork beat us out the gate in the end, we made a lot of mistakes, had a decent first 20 minutes and then they got a goal against the run of play and if you make mistakes against Cork they punish you like other teams won't," McGill said.

Dublin have beefed up their panel since, not least with the inclusion of dual star Lyndsey Peat, who missed the whole National League campaign because of her NBL basketball commitments.

In fact, Peat was so busy earlier this summer chasing European qualification with the Irish senior basketball team that, on one particularly hectic afternoon, she had to rush from one game to the other by helicopter!

Peat returned in time to join her experienced Parnells' team-mates Avril Cluxton (Stephen's sister) and Niamh McEvoy in the starting line-up that knocked out last year's finalists Monaghan 2-14 to 1-15 in a thrilling semi-final.

Full-forward star Sinead Aherne scored 1-9 (0-7f) that day and the Jackies are captained by midfielder Denise Masterson, who was new to the panel when they lost their last final.

Masterson was also a very talented basketballer who only took up Gaelic football when she was 23 because: "I went looking for something to play in the summer!

"There were a lot of changes in personnel after 2004 so it was a case of new blood and new management and I think it takes a while to settle after that happens," she explained of their renaissance.

Now she has the dream job of captaining Dublin in an All-Ireland final and believes that the way they beat Monaghan will stand to them now.

"We'd take a lot of faith from our semi-final, we were eight points down and clawed that back," Masterson said.

"I think it's the extra bit of character you need if it doesn't go to plan in the first 10 minutes, that you'll just keep at it.

"It's nice to know we beat Cork already this season but then they beat us convincingly afterwards.

"An All-Ireland final is a very different day anyway so I wouldn't be placing much on either of our earlier meetings."

- Cliona Foley
Hope Dubs come to Croker to support the girls. Give them the support they deserve. Up the Jackies!

The game last night was very good but was very concerning on a Dublin perspective.Jayo,Alan Brogan and in particular Ross McConnell were not at the races last night and Judes clearly frustrated them to the point where Jayo lost the head at Bernard Brogan.

Plunketts I reckon kicked 15-18 wides in the entire match and 7 of these were very easy I thought but credit has to go to Judes who were very economical with their chances and only had two wides. The defensive tactics of Judes clearly swallowed up the 1-1-1 formation Plunketts had up front and Niall O Shea has signalled a huge intent to be on the Dublin panel as a regular.

Plunketts didn't deserve anything from the game despite all the possession and chances they had.Alan Brogan seemed to be in a very selfish mood yesterday and this was part of Plunketts downfall.Meanwhile McConnell was taken out of the game and only made the odd tackle and dispossession.Jayo was dispossessed on so many occasions it wasn't funny. He was only his usual self for 5-10 minutes in the second half.Brendan McManoman had a great game.I think it will be a Judes-Crokes final.

To be fair McConnell was not helped by Moyles who didn't contest any midfield ball. I Know he played at wing forward but there were numerous occassions when he didn't even attempt to go up for ball in his sector and instead waited for ball to drop. He needs to be more assertive. He distributes ball well but he needs to get stuck in more.
If Dublin clubs are going to bring in outside players, those players have to contribute more.
I couldn't believe Plunketts actually lost this game. Sherlock was winning a lot of good ball on the forty but there were some very bad wides kicked.
And I think we really need to look at Dean Rock now as a forward for Dublin. His place kicking is excellent off the ground.
Kevin McManamon is another who has showed in last two games. Judes IMO have nothing to lose for rest of championship. Twice now against Plunketts they have been in position were they have been out of game for long periods and still come back to get a "result". Could well be fate is on their side.

I dont think Dotsy was nominated this year, himself and Ronan Fallon were nominated last year.

Dotsy was poor this year in comparison to last year. Rushe should have been nominated in his place.

I don't think Rushe did enough in the championship to warrant a nomination. I'd have Eoin Kelly (Waterford) ahead of Dotsy tbh. I think the only reason he's in there is because Eddie Brennan and Lar Corbett were nominated in the half forward line and there wasn't that much else on offer.

Even though I dont think he deserved the nomination, I think Dotsy is the first Dublin hurler for many years to get 2 all star nominations and should be congratulated on that. If he plays like he did last year next year Dublin will make some noise in the championship. Hopefully Dotsy does not end up Dublin hurlings Ray Cosgrove

I think a fully fit Ronan Fallon will be a huge boost to Dublin next year. It'll allow Joey Boland to move to the wing or even to midfield to partner Johnny McCaffrey. He's also seriously good from long range at taking scores and at giving quality ball into the full forward line, something we lacked a little this year.

Four dublin players included in the All Star football nominations list. Along predictable lines of Cluxton, two brogan brothers and Cahill.
Which is a worry. Cluxton and Alan Brogan no strangers to the nominations list (and that said both deserved of any accolade in past years) at this stage. Would like to see some new talent coming through.
In future years would expect to see maybe Paddy Andrews and Dean Rock being up there. Early days for Rock I know but his place kicking is excellent and overall he has the makings of a very good forward for us along with Andrews.

Dublin Football Stars Rally the Troops Ahead of Ladies Football AI Final

Quote:
Dublin stars Jason Sherlock, Ciaran Whelan and 2009 captain Paul Griffin have today called on all true Dublin fans to come out in their thousands and support the Dublin Ladies Football team in the All-Ireland Final this Sunday.

Dublin face Cork as they go in search of their first ever All-Ireland senior title. Tickets are available from www.ticketmaster.ie and the Dublin game is the last game of an attractive triple header and throws in at 4pm.

All-Ireland winner, veteran forward and seven-time Leinster champion Jason Sherlock said; “This game represents Dublin’s last chance of a senior All-Ireland this decade. The Ladies team deserves our support and I would call on all true Dublin GAA people to get out and head to Croke Park this Sunday. Tickets are available all week and on the day and there is no excuse for not playing your part.”

All-Star midfielder and Dublin legend Ciaran Whelan backed the Ladies team as well. “The Ladies work as hard as the men and make the same sacrifices. Gerry McGill’s team have done brilliantly to get this far but to beat a great team like Cork who are going for five-in-a-row they will need huge support and it would be a massive morale booster if there were thousands of Dubs fans there on the day.”

Dublin captain Paul Griffin concluded. “This Dubs team comes from every corner of the county and they have done Dublin football proud to reach an All-Ireland final. It would be great for Dublin GAA to claim an All-Ireland title and to finish the year on a high. All the Dublin men’s 2009 panel are supporting the team and wish the girls every success and Stephen Cluxton’s sister is playing which means there are family ties between the panels. The ladies have always been great supporters of ours and I hope that Dublin fans will head to Croke Park on Sunday as it could make all the difference.”
Despite the fact that the mens county final is on at the same time on Sunday ticket sales in Cork have been extremely strong.

Calling on all Dubs fans to come out and support the girls. It would be awful for Cork to have more supporters there when the final is on in Dublin. Weather is reported to be good for Sunday so there's no excuse!

These girls deserve our support.

I was surprised at this too. I reckon it was a sponsor, it wouldn't have been a cheap journey anyway! Hope she gives the Cork ladies a headache on Sunday, she's a tank!

Have seen her in basketball games. Wears her heart on her sleeve and a great trier.
